Panama has signed a contract with Embraer to acquire four A-29 Super Tucano aircraft for its National Air and Naval Service (SENAN). The planes will serve as a new platform for surveillance, reconnaissance, and protection missions as part of the country’s broader national security program.
With this purchase, Panama becomes the eighth Latin American nation to adopt the Super Tucano, joining Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, and the Dominican Republic.
The A-29, recognised for its reliability, low operating costs, and versatility, is used by 22 air forces worldwide and has accumulated over 600,000 flight hours. Its mission profile includes border monitoring, air patrol, counter-illicit operations, reconnaissance, and pilot training.
Embraer Defense & Security CEO Bosco da Costa Junior called Panama’s decision “an honour” and highlighted the aircraft’s role in supporting national sovereignty.
