India certifies Embraer’s E-Jets family

Share

Embraer has received Type Certification from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for several members of its E-Jets family, including the E190, E195, and the E195-E2, clearing the way for airlines in India to operate the aircraft.

The certification expands Embraer’s presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets. The E175 had already been certified and is currently operated in India by Star Air.

Embraer says the certification supports the Indian government’s UDAN regional connectivity programme by enabling airlines to serve thinner routes with fuel-efficient aircraft. The manufacturer highlighted the E195-E2 as the world’s most fuel-efficient and quietest small narrowbody aircraft, offering a range of up to seven hours and the ability to operate from airports with short runways or limited infrastructure.

The certification follows an agreement announced earlier this year between Embraer and Adani Defence & Aerospace to explore the establishment of a Final Assembly Line (FAL) in India for the E175, supporting the country’s Regional Transport Aircraft programme.

Globally, Embraer has delivered more than 1,900 E-Jets, which are operated by over 80 airlines in more than 50 countries. In India, nearly 50 Embraer aircraft are currently in service across the commercial, defence and business aviation sectors, with Star Air operating a fleet of 11 E175 and ERJ145 aircraft.
