Greece has signed a contract for three Embraer KC-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft, with options for another three, under a government-to-government agreement with Portugal. According to Embraer’s announcement on 2 November 2026, the Hellenic Air Force is scheduled to receive its first aircraft in 2027.
The acquisition will strengthen Greece’s airlift and air-to-air refuelling capabilities, while supporting interoperability with NATO allies. The agreement also provides opportunities for cooperation with European operators in training, maintenance support and logistics.
Greece becomes the seventh European country to select the Millennium, joining Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden.
The KC-390 can carry up to 26 tonnes and fly at 470 knots. Its missions include troop and cargo transport, airdrops, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting and humanitarian operations. It can operate from unpaved runways and, with refuelling equipment installed, serve as both a tanker and a receiver.
