Civil Air Patrol (CAP) has ordered 15 additional Cessna piston-engine aircraft from Textron Aviation to strengthen its nationwide lifesaving, training and community support missions. The order includes seven Cessna Skyhawk 172s and eight Cessna Skylane 182s, with deliveries scheduled throughout 2026. This follows the recent delivery of two Skylanes and one Turbo Stationair HD, bringing CAP’s fleet to more than 500 Cessna aircraft.
As the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary and a nonprofit organisation, CAP operates across all 50 U.S. states and several territories, providing cost-effective support to federal, state and local authorities. In 2025 alone, CAP flew over 100,000 hours, conducted more than 400 search-and-rescue missions, recorded over 200 finds and saved at least three dozen lives, with the majority of flying hours assigned by the U.S. Air Force.
Textron Aviation highlighted the reliability and versatility of Cessna aircraft for critical missions, while CAP leadership said the new aircraft will enhance rapid response capabilities, pilot training and community support nationwide. The expanded fleet further reinforces CAP’s role in emergency response, disaster relief and other special mission operations.
