The FAA has proposed $3.1 million in penalties against Boeing for safety violations between September 2023 and February 2024, including issues tied to the January 5, 2024, door plug blowout.
Regulators cited hundreds of quality system violations at Boeing’s Renton, WA, and Spirit AeroSystems’ Wichita, KS, plants.
Boeing also submitted two unairworthy aircraft for certification, and a non-ODA employee pressured a safety official to approve a 737 MAX despite noncompliance.
The fines represent the maximum allowed under law, and Boeing has 30 days to respond.
