Boeing will showcase its global efforts to develop sustainable aviation biofuel at Expo Milano 2015’s USA Pavilion, which highlights American industry, products and entrepreneurship in sustainability, nutrition and health, technology and innovation.
A sponsor of the USA Pavilion, Boeing is committed to improving its and the aviation industry’s environmental performance through its operations and products. As part of its efforts, the company is designing and building products that are quieter and more fuel efficient, working with airlines to reduce fuel use and emissions, and developing sustainable aviation biofuel. Boeing also is working toward a target of zero growth by 2017 in greenhouse gas emissions, water use, hazardous waste generation and solid waste sent to landfills—even as it increases commercial airplane production rates by 50 percent.
“For Boeing, the Expo is a unique opportunity to tell our story to the world—as the leading aerospace innovator and as a globally responsible company,” said Marc Allen, Boeing senior vice president and president of Boeing International.
“Boeing leadership in sustainable aviation and our innovative solutions will find the perfect space and attention at the Expo Milano,” said Antonio De Palmas, president of Boeing Italy. “This is a great opportunity for Boeing to promote the long-term growth of sustainable aviation and maintain the right focus toward solutions, like sustainable fuels, that are the future of our industry. It will be also an opportunity to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of Boeing in Italy.”
The USA Pavilion, “American Food 2.0: United to Feed the Planet,” will showcase the U.S. as an innovator not only in the food sector but also in many aspects of culture, science and business. The U.S. is among 145 participating nations in Expo Milano 2015, which will promote a global dialogue about the future of the food system with the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.” Italy will host the Expo from May 1 to Oct. 31, 2015.
