Boeing today issued the following statement regarding the Air Force One program:

We are currently under contract for $170 million to help determine the capabilities of these complex military aircraft that serve the unique requirements of the President of the United States. We look forward to working with the U.S. Air Force on subsequent phases of the program allowing us to deliver the best planes for the President at the best value for the American taxpayer.

CHICAGO, Dec. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/

This statement was issued in response to a tweet by President-elect Donald Trump, in which he said that the programme to build and equip two Boeing 747-8i aircraft for the use of the President of the United States (in replacement of the two Boeing 747-200 currently in use) was too costly at 4 billion dollars and that he would cancel it.

Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!

In fact, the order is in the US Air Force budget for 2.87 million dollars for the two planes. Another incorrect statement by Mr. Trump?
