Boeing’s X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle (OTV) is scheduled to launch its eighth mission (OTV-8) no earlier than August 21 from Florida’s Space Coast, following the successful return of OTV-7 in March 2025.

This mission will feature a service module to expand experiment capacity, supporting advanced demonstrations in collaboration with the U.S. Space Force, Air Force Research Laboratory, and Defense Innovation Unit.

Key technologies onboard include:

  • Laser communications: A high-bandwidth, inter-satellite link to enhance data transmission and support resilient U.S. space communications architecture.
  • Quantum inertial sensor: The most advanced of its kind tested in space, enabling precise navigation without GPS, critical for operations in deep space or GPS-denied environments.

Since its debut in 2010, the X-37B has accumulated over 4,200 days in orbit, evolving into a flexible platform for cutting-edge space research and technology demonstration.
