Boeing has broken ground on a major expansion of its Boeing South Carolina (BSC) site, home of the 787 Dreamliner programme, to support increased production driven by strong global demand.
The company plans to invest over $1 billion and create more than 1,000 new jobs over the next five years, enabling BSC to boost output to 10 Dreamliners per month by 2026.
The expansion includes:
The construction, managed by HITT Contracting and BE&K Building Group, will generate more than 2,500 construction jobs and 6.2 million labour hours.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope said the investment ensures Boeing can meet “strong and sustained demand” for the 787 family, calling it a testament to the workforce and to “American manufacturing.”
Boeing has delivered over 1,200 Dreamliners, with a backlog near 1,000 and more than 300 orders added in 2025 alone. The company expects demand for 7,800 new widebody aircraft over the next 20 years.
U.S. and state leaders, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Governor Henry McMaster, and Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, hailed the project as a boost for South Carolina’s economy and workforce, underscoring Boeing’s long-term commitment to the Lowcountry and to U.S. industrial leadership.
