After the Boeing-Embraer joint venture deal worth $4.2 billion to buy 80% of Embraer stakes, Boeing today announced to rebrand Embraer’s commercial jet division (Embraer Commercial Aviation) into Boeing Brasil – Commercial. Embraer’s headquarters will remain in São José dos Campos, the Brazilian company will retain a 20% stake. .
The brand name “Embraer” will continue to exist, but is now limited to executive jets and defense aviation segments. On 5 July 2018, the joint venture with Boeing was announced for its airliners. This was seen as a reaction after Airbus acquired a majority of the competing Bombardier CSeries on 16 October 2017: one year ago, Airbus welcomed the Bombardier CSeries range of aircraft into its aircraft family as the Airbus A220.
The company is the third largest producer of civil aircraft, after Boeing and Airbus.
