Key bookings for A350 XWB and A320 Family jetliners brought Airbus’ order volume in May to 59 aircraft; while a total of 60 deliveries were made from across the company’s product range, involving the A320 Family, A330, A350 XWB and A380.

China Southern Airlines ordered 20 A350 XWBs in the A350-900 version, becoming the 45th customer for this widebody jetliner – which brings unrivalled levels of operational efficiency and significantly lower maintenance costs for operators, along with superior levels of comfort and well-being for passengers.

The best-selling A320 Family increased its order volume in May with 30 A321ceo (Current Engine Option) aircraft ordered by U.S.-based Delta Air Lines. Completing the month’s transactions were five A320ceo and four A320neo (New Engine Option) jetliners acquired by an undisclosed customer.

Taking conversions and cancellations into account, the new business in May brought Airbus’ net orders to 73 aircraft for the first five months of 2017.

Deliveries during May involved 46 A320 Family aircraft (including 12 A320/A321neo versions), along with six A330-200/A330-300s, five A350-900s and three A380s.

With the latest orders and deliveries activity, Airbus’ overall backlog of jetliners to be delivered stood at 6,705 at month’s end, representing approximately eight years of production.

In May Boeing has 208 aircraft on order (165 Boeing 737 – 15 Boeing 767 – 9 Boeing 777 and 23 Boeing 787)
