Airbus announced that Lars Wagner, currently CEO of MTU Aero Engines, will become the CEO of its Commercial Aircraft division starting 1 January 2026, succeeding Christian Scherer, who will step down after more than 40 years at Airbus.

To ensure a smooth handover, Wagner will join Airbus in November 2025 and work alongside Scherer during the transition. Wagner, 50, has led MTU since January 2023 and previously held key roles at both MTU and Airbus. He holds degrees in mechanical and aeronautical engineering, as well as an MBA.
