Germany has exercised an option for 20 additional H145M light combat helicopters, increasing its total fleet to 82 helicopters. The first H145M was delivered in November 2024, less than a year after the initial contract signed in December 2023.
The H145M is a versatile military helicopter used for training, reconnaissance, special forces operations, and light attack missions. It can be rapidly reconfigured between mission roles and is equipped with ballistic and guided weapons, self-protection systems, and fast-roping equipment for special operations.
The German Army will receive 72 helicopters, while the Luftwaffe’s special forces will operate ten. The H145M family has a global footprint, with operators including the US Army (UH-72 Lakota), Hungary, Belgium, and Ireland. Powered by twin Safran Arriel 2E engines and featuring the Helionix digital avionics suite, the H145M is noted for its low acoustic footprint and advanced autopilot capabilities.
Stefan Thomé, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters Germany, called the additional order a “powerful sign of trust in the H145M’s exceptional performance and multi-role capabilities.”
