Airbus Helicopters has delivered the first two NH90 Tactical Transport Helicopters (MSPT variant) to the Spanish Navy, marking the Navy’s entry into the joint NH90 programme shared by Spain’s Army and Air & Space Force. These are the first of seven navalised helicopters in a second batch under Spain’s total 23-aircraft NH90 programme.
Designed for amphibious tactical transport, the MSPT variant includes reinforced landing gear, naval communications/navigation systems, and automatic rotor/fuselage folding for shipboard use. It can carry up to 20 fully equipped troops or a light vehicle, and is capable of single-pilot IFR operations, even at night or in adverse weather.
The helicopters will enter service at Rota Naval Base this summer. Their delivery aligns with the Spanish National Helicopter Plan, signed on May 13, which aims to further expand NH90 use across all branches of the Armed Forces.
