Air Transport Europe (ATE), a helicopter emergency medical services operator based in Slovakia, has signed a contract with Airbus Helicopters to purchase one Airbus H135 and one Airbus H140 helicopter to strengthen its air rescue operations.

The aircraft will support ATE’s 24/7 helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) from seven bases in Slovakia and two in the neighbouring Czech Republic. According to CEO Milan Hoholik, integrating the two helicopters will enhance the operator’s ability to reach patients in difficult terrain and deliver high-quality emergency care.

The H135, already widely used in medical missions, features Airbus’ Helionix digital avionics suite and a four-axis autopilot, providing high safety standards, low noise levels and a flexible cabin configuration for medical crews.

The H140, unveiled in 2025, is Airbus Helicopters’ newest light twin-engine rotorcraft and is scheduled to enter service in 2028 for the emergency medical services market. The helicopter includes innovations such as a five-blade bearingless main rotor, a T-shaped tail boom with Fenestron, and more powerful Safran engines, along with a larger cabin designed to accommodate stretchers, intensive-care equipment and up to six passengers.
