Spain has ordered 18 Airbus C295 transport aircraft to replace its ageing CN235 and C212 fleets used for pilot and paratrooper training within the Spanish Air and Space Force. The programme aims to harmonise fleets and maximise logistical and operational commonality with Spain’s existing C295 operations.
With this order, Spain’s total C295 fleet will grow to 46 aircraft across transport, maritime patrol, and surveillance roles. The aircraft will support troop and paratrooper transport, cargo and airdrop missions, medical evacuation, and operations from unprepared runways.
The acquisition is split into two batches. The first will replace CN235s at Matacán Air Base in Salamanca for training and transport missions, with deliveries scheduled from 2026 to 2028. The second batch will replace C212s at Alcantarilla Air Base in Murcia for manual and automatic paratrooper and cargo drops, with deliveries planned between 2030 and 2032.
The contract also includes a comprehensive training and support package, featuring advanced simulators, computer-based training systems, and fleet maintenance and logistics support through December 2032. Assembled in Seville, the C295 order reinforces Spain’s long-term commitment to the type while supporting national industrial capabilities and strategic autonomy.
