Airbus has reached a major milestone in its A350F freighter programme with the completion and delivery of the first main deck cargo door, produced at its Illescas facility in Spain and sent to the Final Assembly Line in Toulouse.
The oversized cargo door—described as the largest in the industry—will be installed on the first test aircraft and undergo validation as Airbus prepares for a flight test campaign running from 2026 to 2027. Designed to improve loading efficiency and safety, the door features a large composite structure and an electrically operated system.
The project highlights Spain’s strategic role in Airbus’ manufacturing network, particularly in advanced composite materials. Once full production begins, assembly processes will span multiple sites, including Illescas, Hamburg, and Toulouse.
The A350F itself is positioned as a next-generation freighter, offering a payload of up to 111 tonnes and a range of 8,700 km. Airbus says the aircraft will deliver around 20% lower fuel consumption and emissions compared to previous-generation cargo planes, while meeting upcoming international CO? standards.
As of March 2026, the programme has secured 101 orders from 14 customers, signalling strong market interest as the air freight sector continues to modernise.
