SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Lufthansa Technik AG have signed a new multi-year agreement that will see Lufthansa Technik Malta carry out base maintenance services for the airline’s Airbus A350 fleet starting in 2026. The deal marks a significant expansion of the long-standing partnership between the two companies and underscores Lufthansa Technik’s growing role in supporting next-generation widebody aircraft in Europe.
The new contract follows a successful initial base maintenance visit for a SAS A350-900 at Lufthansa Technik Malta in May 2024. Encouraged by the quality and efficiency of that visit, SAS has opted to entrust additional aircraft of the same type to the Malta-based MRO center. The agreement covers scheduled two-, four-, and six-year checks for the A350 fleet, which has served as the airline’s flagship model since 2019, primarily operating long-haul routes from Copenhagen to destinations in North America and Asia. SAS currently operates four Airbus A350-900s.
