This Tuesday morning, a wildcat strike by Swissport baggage handlers broke out at Brussels airport
[update: On Wednesday at 09:00 an agreement between the two parties has been reached, the strike is over. However, delays and cancellations remain possible throughout the day.]
The staff complained about the increased workload, the lack of staff, the lack of proper equipment and the bad condition of that old equipment. Passengers travelling with ground handler Aviapartner are not affected.
Passengers travelling through the airport with airlines handled by Swissport are likely to experience inconveniences:
Luggage of passengers who are leaving might not be onboard while arriving passengers will have to wait a long time before they will see their bags on the conveyor belt.
Brussels Airlines has informed passengers to travel with hand luggage only. Many flights are departing with delays ranging from 1 to 2 hours.
Around 220 flights and 25,000 passengers have been affected. 18 flights got canceled.
The strike will continue at least until 15:00, a new meeting between management and the unions has been scheduled by then.
At 16:25 the meeting was still ongoing.

At 18:00 union ACLVB announced that a pre-agreement has been reached.
At 22:00 the Swissport employees have rejected the proposal of the management.
