Strikes by baggage handlers at Azul Handling, part of Ryanair Group, began on 15 August and will continue every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until 31 December 2025, threatening disruption at major Spanish airports including Madrid, Barcelona, Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca, and Lanzarote.

More than 3,000 workers are protesting over pay, overtime, and job security. Additional strikes by Menzies are scheduled on 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31 August.

While Ryanair insists operations will be unaffected due to Spain’s minimum service rules, passengers are advised to check flight status with the airlines. The strikes coincide with peak travel, including the August bank holiday.

If delays or cancellations occur, travellers may be entitled to care, rebooking, or compensation depending on flight length and length of delay.
