Aviapartner strike resumes at Brussels Airport after mediation talks fail

Share

Industrial action at ground handling company Aviapartner has resumed at Brussels Airport after mediation talks between management and trade unions failed to produce an agreement on Tuesday. According to Belgian media reports, part of the workforce stopped work again following the unsuccessful negotiations. The renewed strike action comes just one day after a wildcat strike disrupted check-in and boarding operations for several airlines at Belgium’s largest airport.

The spontaneous walkout on Monday began in the early hours of the morning and affected around 15 flights, causing delays of up to two hours and long queues at check-in counters. Airlines handled by Aviapartner, including TUI fly, Ryanair, Iberia and British Airways, were impacted, while Brussels Airlines operations continued normally as its ground handling services are provided by Alyzia.

Trade unions and Aviapartner management met on Tuesday in an attempt to resolve the dispute, but the mediation session failed to reach a breakthrough. As a result, some employees resumed strike action later in the day, prolonging uncertainty for passengers travelling through Brussels Airport.

The exact demands of the workers have not yet been publicly detailed. Neither Aviapartner nor the unions have provided further information on whether additional talks are planned or how long the renewed industrial action could continue.

Brussels Airport has advised passengers travelling on flights handled by Aviapartner to check the latest status of their flight with their airline before departing for the airport.
