Japan Airlines to take delivery of two A350-1000s in fiscal 2023, with the remaining nine aircraft by 2028, as the carrier gradually retires the current B777-300ER fleet. JAL will expand to 229 aircraft as a group in 2025.

EASA say it has seen no evidence that paint or surface erosion on the A350, which is at the centre of a legal dispute between Airbus and Qatar Airways, represented a safety issue.

Airbus has raised the stakes in a dispute with Qatar Airways over damage to the painted surface of A350s by revoking the contract for a fourth aeroplane.

Airbus has revoked its entire outstanding order from Qatar Airways for A350 jets, severing all remaining new jetliner business with the Gulf carrier in the latest twist to a safety and contractual dispute.

Airbus has warned investors it faces “material adverse impact” as the result of an ongoing court battle with Qatar Airways, over the airline’s claims it was forced to ground multiple A350s due to an underlying “design defect” in Airbus’ planes.

On this 11 November 2022, Airbus and Qatar Airways will resume a London court battle that thrusts their relations with regulators into the spotlight in a dispute over the safety of grounded A350 jets.

Airbus and Qatar Airways kicked off the latest in a series of London court hearings on a bitter business and safety row. So far there are no signs of a settlement.

Qatar Airways was given a 13-week deadline by a UK court to submit any correspondence it has with the Qatar CAA about the A350’s grounding, as the carrier says 22 A350s had their Airworthiness Review Certificates revoked.

After the resolution of the dispute, Airbus said it will reinstate Qatar Airways orders for 50 A321 single-aisle aircraft that the company had revoked as part of the dispute. It will also hand over the remaining 23 A350s from Qatar’s pending order book, with deliveries starting in 2023. Qatar will get the A321neo models from 2026.
