KLM flight #KL887, Amsterdam-Hong Kong (Boeing 777-200ER reg. PH-BQG), is returning to Amsterdam after turning around over Belarus near the Russian border. Reason currently unknown.

Image

EDIT: Landing at AMS after a 4 hr 30 min excursion to the Belarus/Russian border. Flight marked as cancelled. Apparently minor technical problem.

KL 887 returned to Schiphol for technical reasons

KL887 from Amsterdam to Hong Kong has returned to Schiphol for a technical reason. The aircraft left for Hong Kong this afternoon. After an hour and a half - near Moscow - it was decided to return to Schiphol as a precaution. Passengers and crew have not been in danger. The aircraft has since landed at Schiphol.

Accommodation for the night is arranged for passengers. They will be rebooked and will all leave for Hongkong tomorrow.

If FR24 is correct, then EK 181 made a missed approach at BRU on 16/2 during the storm, and immediately diverted to ZRH (without making a new trial to land).
Is this a normal procedure?
Why divert to Zurich? Was there no alternative closer to BRU?
Only 90 minutes later, the plane returned to BRU.

Regards,

Peter

More than 30 flights cancelled or diverted, says FR24:

Also a diversion for the same reason - or actually a return to base: OO-JNL, flying from AMS to TFS for TUI.nl as OR-579:

Operated by SmartLynx A320 ES-SAV.

What happened to the passengers and the aircraft after the diversion? Hotel in Faro before continuing to Las Palmas after the storm? Anyway, the weather in Faro is much nicer than in the Canary Islands at the moment.

TUI flight TB1551 from Brussels (BRU) to Gran Canaria (LPA) returned to Brussels when the flight was already above Spain. The aircraft flew three and a half hours, with landing at the airport of departure!
Yesterday's flight diverted to Faro (FAO).

Canary Islands sand storm:

This Belgian tourist is very unhappy that his flight was cancelled, and that TUIfly.be didn't allow him to choose between a rerouting and a cancellation/refund:

Transavia France flight TO3938 from Paris Orly to Tel Aviv (B738 reg. F-GZHP) is squawking 7700 and diverting to Athens. Reason unknown., probably medical because the aircraft is back in the air to TLV.

Very strange: Lufthansa flight LH929, from London City (LCY) to Frankfurt (FRA) diverted to Brussels Airport (BRU). But at the point where it diverted, the aircraft was closer to Frankfurt, it's final destination, than Brussels. Has anyone an idea why it did choose BRU as airport of diversion?

I just found out that FRA is closed due to reported drone activity at the airport. According to Eurocontrol, the airport might be closed until 14:00 local time.
