^^ That looks like a lot more than just a hangar. It looks like a complete terminal with offices, etc. I presume this will be used as a terminal for the VIP flights, etc... also?

Too bad they don't demolish the old hangars....

As of July 2nd, the Belgian Air Force withdrew its Dassault Falcon 900 from its fleet. The Falcon 900 served as a VVIP long-range liaison jet for the Belgian Defence and the government since 1995. With this retirement, the BAF will no longer have an executive trans-Atlantic capability.

Quite a weird air parade without Falcon, AlphaJets and SeaKing...

Well. First A400M in 2020. The first one to arrive will be Luxemburgish, and our first one is for Autumn 2020.

Both for Melsbroek.

With a good reason: these aircraft have all been phased out. Instead, we had the NH-90s, and a historical Spitfire: it doesn't happen so often! And the tricolour fumes from F-16s is also a new feature, as well as the national flag hanging under an NH-90.

Too many aircraft are being phased out without proper successors. The future BAF will only have F-35, NH90, A400M and a few drones. The helicopter capacity is really appalling: we only have 8 NH90. 8 helicopters for an entire air force... Ridiculous. We go from 23 (Agusta + Alouette) to 8...

When you compare with the Dutch air force: they also have Chinook, Apache and Cougar helicopters... on top of 20(!) NH90.

With now the end of the 'white (VIP) fleet' there's not much left... I know there will be (some) replacements but it will be outsourced to a (probably foreign) private company, like the current A321.

Seriously, Belgium needs to invest more in its air force (helicopter capacity in particular).

France just ordered 169 new Airbus H160 helicopters, maybe an idea for the BAF?

(Comparison: the private Belgian company Noordzee Helikopters Vlaanderen NHV has more than 60 helicopters... while the (future) BAF only 8. Come on...)

I thought BAF wanted to divest its "white" fleet and subcontract all VIP flights.

In my eyes, one doesn’t rule out the other.
The A321 could be considered part of the fleet as well, but it’s still a contracted aircraft. The same could be true for a hypothetical FA7X.

Now confirmed: Belgian Air Component adds two Dassault Falcon7X’s to its VIP “white fleet”
