Why not just admit this is Italy with its good and bad sides. It does not upset me anymore
That's the way it is. I love Italy even if it is far from à perfect country (but the perfect country does not exist, just like a perfect airline does not exist). I hope ITA will go for the AF/DL deal instead of LH/MSC, but I am afraid they will make the same mistake as SN's Board (or whatever it was called). On a side note, btw, I find ITA's livery ugly, but that is of minor importance at the moment)

Lufthansa and MSC have sent the new binding offer to Italy’s Ministry of Economy to take over the majority of ITA Airways. An offer is also expected to be received from Certares (US), which values the airline at $516-619 million. The Lufthansa-MSC offer for an 80% stake, values the airline at US$826-877 million.

ITA Airways' privatisation is on the back burner due to the end of the Draghi government and the forthcoming political elections on 25 September 2022. Also, the Ministry of Economy says it will reject a €400 million capital increase by the carrier — if requested now — as the government considers it not urgent.

Italy has asked bidders willing to take over ITA Airways to come up with improved proposals because the government does not deem the current bids to be sufficient.

Methinks that Italy will remain the only shareholder of ITA and the Italian taxpayer will be duped, once again.

Perhaps they won't sell their airline for peanuts like SN's shareholders did. ITAlian food for thought...

Not every company, even state-owned, is ready to pour millions into a bottomless well.

But even if it's not profitable the airline is most important for Italy !
If it disappear and Italy has to do it without airline it's a catastrophy for the country, both touristic and business wise.
I don't have the exact numbers but Italy can lose some millions before it's a losing scenario.
Millions are going out of the country true Ryanair etc....already.

Did you forget what Etihad did with AZ ? Even if AZ was in bad situation before EY take over, situation worsen after. So i can undestand Italy. Find a good patnership to avoid same mistakes. And then i think that Italy doesn't want that ITA becomes "le parent pauvre" (poor relative) of a group that will buy stake like SN with LH.

ITA a has many arguments: Italy is one of most visited country in the world. Italy is member of G7. Before covid, Roma Fumicino trafic was over 40 millions pax per year,....

Sure, but they've had these strong arguments for decades; and they've been mismanaged for decades. Are they able to change?

Italy’s PM Mario Draghi says that his lame-duck government would decide by 15 August 2022 whether to approve a joint bid by Lufthansa and MSC to take a majority stake in ITA Airways. Draghi does not plan to leave the decision to the next government.

We can give a second chance.

Air New Zealand was nearly to collapse in 2001. They are now among the world best airline

In October 2001, Air New Zealand was re-nationalised under a New Zealand government NZ$885 million rescue plan (with the government taking an 82% stake), and subsequently received new leadership.[28] This act was the only thing that spared Air New Zealand from going into administration and likely grounding. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_New_Zealand

Because Mario Draghi resigned and remains in place only until the new elections.

Tomorrow evening yet another deadline expires for the submission of offers for the privatization of ITA Airways.
The two consortiums (MSC-Lufthansa and Certares) are refining and defining the offers that they will present by tomorrow evening 22-8-2022 at 23:59.
MSC and Lufthansa want to take over 80% of ITA Airways (valued at 850 million euros), leaving 20% in public hands.
Certares, the US private equity fund, wants 55-60% and has offered about 200 million less.
Neither Delta or AF/KLM seem interested in joining in with Certares.

ITA Airways is valued at around €950 million, with Lufthansa and MSC bid looking at an 80% stake in the carrier, with the Certares-led consortium reducing its offered share to 55-57%.

The Italian government should decide with which of the two bidders it will negotiate a final deal before the end of August.
