New twist in 737 MAX saga: American Airlines has threatened to cancel some of its orders for the troubled jet. Back in 2011, American's push for a new fuel-efficient narrow-body jet prompted Boeing to develop the MAX in the first place.

Actually, it's not only Boing who can offer the financing. Leasing companies shift their focus towards sale-leaseback transactions in order to make some money. This resulted in BOC financing 10 Max8 for Southwest with delivery 2020-2021. Though this resulted in BOC cancelling 30 Max, it's a win-win for Boeing, the airline and the leasing company. AA probably will not be leasing from external leasing companies given its credit rating, but others may do so.

Aeromexico will renegotiate leases and its debt for aircraft, including with Boeing for the B737 MAX order, to help reduce the carrier’s capacity, as part of a financial restructuring of the airline. SkyWorks Capital has been appointed as the advisory company.

Alafco will buy fewer aircraft from Boeing after reaching an agreement to end its US$336 million legal claim over a cancelled B737 MAX order. The lessor will now buy 20 aircraft, instead of 40, with new delivery dates.

Icelandair Group has now completed agreements with all its creditors and reached a final settlement with Boeing regarding the impact of the suspension of the B737 MAX aircraft. The settlement reduces Icelandair’s MAX purchase commitment by four aircraft, along with a revised delivery schedule for the remaining six MAX delivering from 2Q 2021 to 1Q 2022. Talks on a term sheet for a credit facility guaranteed by the government and to be provided by local banks are in its final stages.
