GOL will receive US$412 million from Boeing as compensation for the grounding of the B737 MAX plane.

Knowing that GOL has 8 stored 737 Max aircraft and 12 on order, TUI fly Belgium has 4 stored and ... on order, thus should probably be able to get half of that amount or $206 million.

Lessons learned from the 737 MAX tragedies:

The FAA adjusts its certification process but maintains Boeing’s central role in self-policing.

Delegation of certification work to Boeing is an "effective and efficient method to enhance safety.”

Says the FAA...

Boeing restarts production of the still-grounded 737 MAX

On a day when Boeing announced more than 12,300 jobs cuts in the U.S., with almost 10,000 of those in Washington state, the company also chose to push the button on re-starting 737 MAX production.

Boeing still is hoping to win FAA clearance for the MAX in late summer or early fall and will slowly ramp up from Wednesday’s restart of the assembly line to be ready.

Boeing is aiming to conduct a key certification test flight on its grounded B737 MAX jet in late June 2020.

Spirit AeroSystems Holdings announced a 21-day layoff for staff doing production and support work for B737 MAX program.

Icelandair Group is looking into the possibility of cancelling the purchase of ten B737 MAX aircraft on order. The B757s would be retained as a result.

In wake of 737 MAX crashes, US Senate proposal would strengthen FAA oversight of Boeing plane designs.

If passed, it would reverse the years-long trend of delegating more and more control to Boeing itself.

https://www.seattletimes.com/business/b ... e-designs/

And the 737 MAX won’t be cleared again by regulators to fly passengers until September at the earliest and there’s still plenty left to do.

A Boeing engineer who last year lodged an internal ethics complaint alleging serious shortcomings in development of the 737 MAX has written to a U.S. Senate committee asserting that systemic problems with the jet’s design “must be fixed before the 737 MAX is allowed to return to service.”

Europe’s and Canada’s aviation safety regulators have demanded design changes to the flight control systems on B737 MAX that go beyond fixing the flawed MCAS system.

The end of the tunnel is not yet in sight for Boeing...

BOC Aviation (a lessor based in Singapore) had cancelled an order for 30 B737 MAX planes and will also defer the delivery of some other B737 MAX aircraft.

Boeing 737 MAX completed its first recertification test flight at Boeing Field in Seattle. Boeing and FAA test pilots and certification officials were on board.

From Dominic Gates (The Seattle Times):

A failure probability analysis of the MAX systems also never made it to the FAA.

That analysis identified a failure of an AOA sensor as potentially “catastrophic.”

Boeing considered this “an internal document only ... and did not provide it to FAA.”
