Meridiana merges with Air Italy

Post by sn26567 » 22 Jul 2011, 12:07

On 21 July the Board of Meridiana unanimously approved a merger between Meridiana and Air Italy, thus creating a new major actor in Italian air transportation with a turnover of more than 800 million euros per year.

The new group will retain a strategic oreintation on Sardinia and will consolidate its position in the main Italian markets, offering both scheduled and charter flights.

Sardinian airline Meridiana was founded in 1963 under the name Alisarda and its main shareholder is the Aga Khan. It merged with Italian airline Eurofly in February 2010 to become MeridianaFly. The seat of the new group will remain at the airport of Olbia, with an important operational centre at Milan Malpensa, the base of Air Italy.
