Re: News from THY - Turkish Airlines

Post by hakan »

Airporthaber.com claims that according to their reliable sources Turkish Airlines will take over running Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport (SAW) from the current company "Malaysia Airports" for US$1,2 Billion.

The second runway for SAW is currently being built and will be ready next year. With recent additional terminal building opening, the capacity of SAW reached to 41 million pax per year. It is estimated with the opening second runway, the capacity will increase further to 63 million pax per year.

The chairman of THY has neither denied nor confirmed when the media asked him about this news during their recent press meeting.

Pegasus that is the main competitor to THY in Turkey uses SAW as their main hub and is the biggest client of SAW airport.

Well there is probably reasons to worry for some Very Stable Genius if the Very Great Sultan decides to switch off the power to Incirlik as he did for 5 days in July 2016.

Look at the map if you want to understand politics used to say Alexandre de Marenches.
If VGS kicks out VSG and goes to bed with Czar Vladimir, it leaves the USAF with a large gap between say Aviano and Al Udeid after the closure of Incirlik and Dyarbakir.
On their way back, they may drop (just a way of speaking ;) ) the 50 of so B-61s to Kleine Brogel. The 701 MunSS should be able to find some accommodation in their, correction our, shelters.

Sometimes you see a label "Don't let within reach of children", but what when they grow up ?
In age I mean.

Sorry, fellows, isn't that politics and only politics? Mind you, I'm not saying you're not right ... but we should keep out of the muddy waters of politics, even if the border is slim at times.

Dear sn26567

Turkish Airlines have been talking (on and off) about flying to Australia for long time. I have been here for long time too and I heard this so many times before. THY has even a proper Sales Office in Sydney despite they don't fly to OZ. I know that the new airport in Istanbul is opening soon and they have to fill this airport with new destinations and increase their market share in the world. But I am still unsure if THY is prepared to tied up at least 2 planes and crew away from IST base where they can utilise these 2 a/c so many times during the journey/time takes between Turkey and Australia?

If they come I am guessing they will fly to Sydney (first OZ destination) via Denpasar. So they can attract European pax that want to go to Bali and Australia.

We will see.

The Government of Ghana is looking for a joint venture to establish their new National Airline.

The Ambassador of Turkey to Ghana has approached and offered Turkish Airlines' expertise to the Aviation Minister of Ghana. The Ambassador Bayazit was showing the Minister Adda the example of recently established "Air Albania" (the joint venture between THY and the Albanian Government).

Some sources claimed that the process of finalising the decision may take up to two years.

I 'ld rather see them increase the capacity on their BRU cargo flights (current A310).
