SN Brussels to Glasgow

Post by Humberside »

Rumours about a BRU-GLA service. Apparently people from SN are in GLA this week and flights may start in March. Bmi already serve EDI-BRU

Won't most people take the cheaper Ryanair flights. Probably business people won't...

Ryanair flies to Prestwick, miles away from Glasgow. SN would fly to the much closer Glasgow airport...

Sabena used to operate a service that stopped in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. I remember coming home from a sh*tty university field trip to Scotland in 2000. As the bus passed Glasgow airport, an ARJ of Sabena landed at the side of us. This was before my first visit to Belgium (we had booked the holiday but it was still three months away). I always used to like seeing Sabena, even when we weren't flying with them.

It would be great for more old Sabena routes to be taken up by SNBA. Maybe sometime we shall get them coming back to Yorkshire.
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

It would be nice to see SN back in Scotland.

But let's first wait and see...

Apparently Ryanair will increase the frequency off PIK-CRL

What FR does on their PIK-CRL route is quite frankly almost irrelevant for the SN's GLA-BRU route.

SN is aiming at 2 kinds of passengers:

-) high yield O/D pax, going on daytrips from the Glasgow area to downtown Brussels for business meetings, the EU institutions etc.
NO way these pax will want to spend 4 times over ONE hour of their precious time to go by car to/from a secondary airport not even remotely situated in the outskirts of the metropolitan area they are bound for/from.

-) Scottisch connecting passengers, looking for a reliable, comfortable, time sensitive and fairly priced alternative to connecting through London to get to large tourist and economic centra in the South and East of Europe like: Milan, Berlin, Vienna, Marseille, Athens, Geneva, Munich, Warsaw, Madrid, Moscow, Istanbul etc...
NO way FR wants to offer pax guaranteed connections out of CRL, in fact FR even discourages passengers to see their flights as 'de facto' network flights!

If you come to think of it, BRU-GLA makes a lot of sense, and SN is surprisingly late to look at it!

Actually at this end SN will have to keep an eye on FR because Prestwick isn't that far from Glasgow really. It takes 2.5 hours to drive to GLA from Aberdeen and it takes 3 to drive to PIK. Having driven to PIK from Glasgow City Centre it really is about 30 minutes - not much at all. It takes about 15 from the City Centre to GLA.

Now the diff between 'South' Brussels and Brussels I don;t know.....

On rush hours it can be easier to go to Charleroi airport by an easy motorway than to Brussels airport through the congested Ring.

In normal times Charleroi Brussels South is at 30 min from Brussels. Brussels National also...

But with public transport getting from Brussels city to Brussels South takes longer then to Brussels Int.

So everything has his advantages and disadvantages.

Indeed, but since there are no new planes, it means that another flight (and/or destination) is cancelled.
