repainting the SN fleet

Post by tolipanebas »

Seems this summer SN has once again decided to send part of their Avro fleet over to AMS to get their new stunning colours.... Curerently OO-DJT (RJ85) is being repainted -as can be seen on the www.qaps.nl site. Does anybody know which planes are scheduled next? Till when will they send planes to AMS: beginning of September like last year? When will all Avro planes finally be repainted?

And how about the A330s? I'd love to see them in the new colours too, yet I was surprised to see the A330 come back from it's C-check in Singapore in the temporarily colours... Is it because repainting them now would have to be paid by Birdy (the temporarily operating carrier of SN's long haul routes)? Does that mean we will see the first A330 in the new colours only somewhere next summer, when the planes are operated by SN? Or will we see one sooner (if the rumours about a 4th A330 are comfirmed)?

Whow, I must say that looks stunning! :)

However, that is never going to happen because the merger between SN and VEX will be in fact a take over by the first (SN) of the second (VEX) after which the name Virgin Express will slowly be replaced by another name: Belgium Blue has been rumoured to be a possibility, yet it will probably be something else than that, because this name is still up for grabs on internet...

Why Belgium blue? Wouldn't Belgium Red be more logic?

Don't know where the name Belgium Blue comes from, but I guess Blue because Blue is the house colour of SN, which will take control of VEX.

Anyway, as said, only a strong rumour (launched by R. Branson himself earlier this year when asked about the merger)

That ARJ100 in Virgin c/s looks really stunning indeed !

But back to the original topic... which Avro's still have to be repainted? Can someone make a list which Avro's are already wearing the new colourscheme?

Regards, Robin Bamps.

I think that OO-DJT looked very smart with its old Sabena-blue engine cowlings. The lilac cowlings of the current livery are nice enough, but not as nice as the old Sabena-blue ones.

OO-DWH already had the lilac cowlings when we flew on it back in March, same day as OO-DJT.

Are there any left with the Sabena-blue cowlings?
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

What's the Belgium Blue thing? Will VEX be renamed after the merger?

The Avro looks stunning, better than it would look with the new VEX colours I guess...
