BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines

This article, which is based on the recent press conference about the future of the Brussels Airlines fleet, states that the 2nd daily EWR flight by United will be moved to another time in S25 to better accommodate connections to/from Africa.
Also, it mentions that United and Air Canada will not expand in S25 due to aircraft shortages. I'm curious, where could long haul growth come from next year? Which airlines, destinations are worth keeping an eye on?
Thanks!

Re: BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines
Delta downgrades JFK-BRU from daily to 4 weekly in summer '25.
Guess the pressure of SN (jfk) and United (Newark) is too big in New York.

This could also explain :
Delta Air Lines restarts Atlanta ! From May 2025, 3x weekly.

Re: BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines
There is now a bigger long haul than in 2019. At that time we didn't had Singapore Airlines, Juneyao, second daily of United to Newark, the daily flights of Thai and the new destination of Hainan.BT001 wrote: ↑15 Sep 2024, 15:58 https://simpleflying.com/exclusive-brus ... onnection/

What we need to keep an eye on is the return of Cathay, an increase of flights of Singapore Airlines and maybe Air India or Latam/Azul. ANA is uncertain if they will increase. The demand is low and economy is weak for the moment

The airlines you mention, are they rumored or are those only guesses ? For next year ?Atlantis wrote: ↑20 Sep 2024, 17:09There is now a bigger long haul than in 2019. It's what they are working on it especially with Cathay and India. The West Coast will for sure not be in 2025 but can be later. More clear will be after the Royal trade missionsMiqvell wrote: ↑20 Sep 2024, 17:32The airlines you mention, are they rumored or are those only guesses ? Maybe not entirely ontopic, but when AA starts receiving its A321XLR, PHL-BRU is pretty much a given according to insiders on A.net...Atlantis wrote: ↑20 Sep 2024, 17:49It's what they are working on it especially with Cathay and India. IAH with UA would also be pretty much certain once UA receives enough LH planes, even before the possible westcoast flight.
Re: BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines
Why does Brussels Airlines fly to JFK and not Newark? Flying to Newark could allow for better code sharing arrangements with United no? Same question for the Lufthansa flights...
Re: BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines
It is still a very popular airport for passengers flying to New York as well the catch area is completely different out of NY.
For example from Brooklyn JFK is so much more convenient.
Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines
Why would AA come to BRU with only one route to a smaller destination like PHL? In the past, they also flew to BRU from JFK and ORD.

Re: BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines
Because it is one of their hubs, New York is already well covered, it is an important city/catchment area, while Chicago is already covered as well ...

Re: BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines
Better to cover both Newark and JFK. Newark is covering the Eastern part of the NY area, JFK, the Western part. New York is not only about Manhattan.
Re: BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines
It's the other way aroundDannyVDB wrote: ↑22 Sep 2024, 00:34Better to cover both Newark and JFK. Newark is covering the Eastern part of the NY area, JFK, the Western part. New York is not only about Manhattan.
JFK acts as a feeder into SN's Africa ops, while EWR is UA's primary eastcoast hub. Anyways, all revenue is going into the A++ bucket.
Re: BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines
PHL is AA's primary North Eastern American hub.
They served JFK and ORD during the heydays of the codesharing with SN, two markets now pretty well covered by United and A++.
Re: BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines
Indeed the same schedule. JFK 4 times, ATL 3 times and land at 08:45 for JFK and 08:40 for the ATL flight
Re: BRU Summer 2025: news, new routes, airlines
Indeed, why not?22 Sep 2024 12:38 pm

US Airways started PHL-BRU back in 2001, after the merger with American Airlines, AA continued the route with B757 under the same flight numbers (750/751).
An A321XLR could work very well.
Besides that, I believe that MUC only has 1 AA flight as well (CLT), FRA only has 2 (DFW & CLT), AMS 2 as well (DFW & PHL).

Atlanta, a big city but not mega, has the biggest airport in the world in PAX numbers. It makes the city and the state og Georgia an economic powerhouse
Atlanta is the center of conventions, trade fairs and other events.
Imagine that Brussels and BRU would have a similar ambition. Just imagine.
