The role of Belgian airports in the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines

Post by Samuel Zerilli »

Hello,

As you know, Brussels Airport will be a key player in the distribution of vaccines against Covid19. I would like to create this post to share all the news about the distribution of this one regarding BRU. I will update the post regularly with articles and planes that would be sent to BRU that we would not be used to seeing as normal.
Test flights are planned in the coming weeks to prepare the BRU Cargo teams for the large influx to come in the coming months, which will be significant.

First news : https://airwaysmag.com/airports/first-f ... s-airport/ / https://www.lesoir.be/341134/article/20 ... -airport-2

If you have any articles / news to share with us feel free to bring this post to life!

With pleasure,

Samuel

It will be a PR war, some airports can't miss the opportunity.
Its likely that many airports will receive vaccine at some point.
(And i wouldnt be surprised that the unusual ethiopian ORD-LGG flight of yesterday is about vaccine too)

I guess Temploux is closer to the GSK plant in Wavre and Ursel closer to the Pfizer plant in Puurs, hence both can be used

with 3 vaccines productions sites in Belgium (1 in flanders, 2 in wallonia), the cake will likely be big enough to make every airport take a good share of cake

Another blocked page mentions many jobs could be created in LGG

When you are working in the business, you support each other. Many times we congratulated LGG and LGG did the same with BRU. We can be proud that we have very good airports, each with its own specialities.

And that's why I am changing the title of this thread from "The role of Brussels Airport in the distribution of Covid19 vaccines" to "The role of Belgian airports in the distribution of Covid19 vaccines".

The *potential* role.
So far its unclear where, what volume, air/trucks, europe only or global, ...

But the fact that Belgium as a country is a major production site is for sure interesting.
A 4th production site is listed now. : eurogentec for the inovio vaccine.

This might be due to the mess created by the brexit... huge delays for trucks

Isn't it surprising that the first shipment of Pfizer vaccines from Puurs to Canada left from Cologne/Bonn airport rather than from one of our specialised pharma cargo airports?

Hi,

Don't know but guess it could be a cooling problem ?
A friend of me works in cooling biz.. and told me cooling infrastructure would be working from march instead of the original date in december ...

Or they lacks cooling support for that amount of vaccines, while Belgium could be better placed for UK supply ...

So we ourselves will wait a bit longer...

First Pfizer vaccines left BRU via UA belly.

Never mind... Didn't read Canada

If its UPS it makes complete sense, and cologne isnt far away at all
Its very likely that vaccines will be distributes across all big cargo hubs depending on the destination and carriers no ?

It’s a shame that media only reports about the airport of departure, which is Cologne, Germany. Should have left via a Belgian airport!
