While at least 2,500 jobs will be lost at Brussels Airport, Flemish minister of mobility Lydia Peeters promotes private jet travel for the elite.

And who wil fly, handle, cater, clean,.. these private jets??? Aren’t that jobs? :roll:

Hi,

It's hard these days not mixing up aviation and politics, everybody has an opinion and these smootly will interfere with politics ...
No problem for me but keep it friendly and respectful..
The following months reporting discussing without politics / interpretations are almost impossible..

Just.. don't mention the war haha

I agree with the fact that politics should be avoided on this forum; but as long as it's only reporting without any personal opinion; why not?
A member with more than 6000 posts here very often shares his political views and this is never a problem for you mods, why...?
+1. Btw, political views are heavily involved when it comes to aviation in this country.

According to https://sites.google.com/site/lhgroupfleet/brussels, they are preparing 7 A319 (5) & 320 (2) for entrance into service from 15/06 onwards.

The same source states there are already 3 A330 active ...

Brussels Airlines seems to be adding a lot of flights from 1 July. Have been looking to go to Malaga, but fares have been very high (822 EUR one way). Used to be 4 weekly, since this morning up to 3 daily are bookable... got my ticket at 149 EUR this time. No idea about other destinations. Had to wait only 46 min with the call centre to get my old tickets changed :shock:

According to De Tijd, the negotiations between Lufthansa and Belgian Government are being blocked by the sanctions LH would get if they don't follow the rules of the contract.
If LH doesn't apply to the rules, the Belgian Government would get shares. This seems to be the difficult part for LH, as they don't want government interferance.

Those three have been kept active for some AFI flights (CKY, ABJ, FIH...) :arrow: repatriation and medical supplies purposes. And of courses the special cargo flights out of TAO.

On a sidenote, there seems to be some valuable progress on the negotiations side between the management and the unions (ground, cabin crew and flight crew).

The discussions between the Belgian Government and LH seem particularly difficult. Agreements found at LH itself, at Swiss and at OS. When will there be white smoke?

Do we still need white smoke ??
As the given money of the belgian government will be transferred so the German government only will pay a bit less ?
So why support this ?
LH wants to play solo ,let them play ...

As I read this I see there is no need for belgian support anymore... , If they belgian money would just be giving back to the German..let them pay and take all risks no ?

It's always in the profit of LH if SN makes money in the future anyway... No ?

Yes. Except that it is not as clear as that. I'm waiting for white, gray or black smoke, but let us know. Know if the Belgian Government resets a company in case of abandonment of LH? Or if LH does not wait for subsidies from the Belgian Government and decides not to help SN and therefore to drop it ... with the consequences of stopping certain long-haul and medium-haul destinations from BRU to speak only of these consequences there ... I do not even speak unfortunately of job losses. Whether it is green, blue or red smoke, I am amazed at the slowness of the bla bla bla and is waiting for an evolution of the situation.

i fear that Brussels Airlines won't able to operate all its flights to Africa. DKR was supposed to start from 22 June, flights will start on 10 July 2020. But Senegal didn't confirm a date about the reopening of borders.

I fear SN won't able to operate any flight by July... In La Libre, multiple sources are stating that CS is ready to let SN go bust, claiming that SN will not be able to reimburse the loan and won't be profitable for a long time, if ever. The absence of agreement between the unions and the management doesn't help. LH Group's Chief of Communication Bartels states that it is pure speculation (of course...).

If the LH board doesn't approve the bailout at the shareholders meeting on the 25th of June proposed by the German government, the whole LH group itself is at risk.

SN might run out of money by the 30th of June.

One expert is saying that SN network to Africa might save her, as LH is not willing to give it away to competitors (but seems to forget that LH itself is at risk, and that saving the "big mother" is the priority).

But what does the LH Group do with SN, Centre of Excellence AFI.

Checked BRU-DSS, 13JUL, DSS-BRU 18JUL : 703.10€ return on SN.

LH : Sorry we have no flights on that day for that destination. Tried both from FRA and BRU.

LX : "DSS" or "Dakar" : destination does not exits. Des Moines proposed...

Actually if you live in CH or like flying with LX (as I do ...), there is no possibility to go to Africa.
But if you need to go to Funchal, LX will propose numerous possibilities including with Portugalia or TAP via LIS, or even via CDG to catch an Air France to LIS.

With friends like that you don't need enemies.

Indeed but even when the borders are not closed it doesn't mean they operate international passenger flights.
Yesterday in a video conference, Yaw Kwakwa, the MD at Ghana Airports Company Ltd, told us that when a cargo flight is allowed to land, they come with double crew and fly out after a short turnaround. Not allowed to leave the aircraft.
It is still very difficult to obtain from any African airport a clear date of reopening on Int'l traffic, though all are frantically preparing for the restart and most in a very professional and well detailed way.

Africa has been very lightly affected by the Covid-19, with total deaths on the whole continent lower than in ... Belgium. And the number of daily deaths being on par with the UK.
Multiple reasons with a mix of a much younger population, genetics (but for the Northern fringe and SA), climate and a very quick reaction : numerous countries closed their borders as from March 14th, a few days before Belgium took the decision of a lock-down.
I fully understand them that they don't want to risk a second wave from the outside.

Some domestic flights here and there though.
SA allowed domestic flights between 3 airports as from 01JUN, extending progressively after that. May not have been wise considering their number of cases and fatalities.
Ghana is operating one flight a day now between ACC and Kumasi, and ACC - Tamale.
Early May, the CEO of DSS told me that TK, QR and EK were already pushing hard for reopening as from June 1st He guessed more like 1st of July and now not even sure, just that like everywhere it will be very gradual, hoping for some 20-30% by September.

I think that it's very interesting that LH's PR department has stopped posting on this forum since a few weeks.
As if they have "given up".

If LH is considering liquidating SN on the basis of lack of agreement with the unions on some drastic cuts, the unions hold the future in their own hands.

I don't see any bright future for SN under the LH Group. LH had 10 years of blue skies to turn SN around and they have failed miserably, just as I predicted that they would, despite many labelling LH a "turn-around specialist" based on giving them too much credit for LX's turn-around.

This is in effect an Alitalia moment.
A few years ago Alitalia unions voted against drastic cuts required by Etihad to receive an injection or file for bankruptcy.
The unions voted against the cuts and AZ filed for bankruptcy.
However, in doing so, jobs and working conditions were preserved.
