OO-SFG left BRU at 04:45 bound to Yaounde. Then a quick hop to Accra to pick more pax (suppose this was a repatriation flight).
Currently abeam PMI with ETA BRU 21:54.
Even with a double crew this makes a very hard day. Congrats.

Globaly, demand will be decreasing because the business will need some time to recover. Of course some people travel to Africa for business purpose but the majority of the PAX on african flight are traveling for family purpose, and this type of demand will be less affected
Should the Belgium government spend money on a company that focuses on Africans traveling to Africa for family purposes?

The point that is being made is that, on restart, agree with it or not, SN should focus on African destinations at first, to have an entry of cash. No matter what's the destination. And then, when situation is more stable reopening other destinations. Has anyone said it would be turned into an African-destinations airline only? No.

Try to think, before posting populist posts, without any kind of reflection or argument behind it. This is really beginning to be tiring to read. (not asking you to agree, but stop drawing easy conclusions).

So, what’s the point you are trying to make?

There is an argument behind it. State aid to SN could be justified by the importance of good air connections for the national economy. Connections with Africa are fine but economically they are much much less important than those with Europe, the America’s and Asia, by a big margin. An even bigger focus of SN on Africa than currently -while maybe fine for SN on itself- would make SN less relevant for the national economy and thereby undermines the argument for state aid.

Belgian state plan to save Brussels Airlines

For several weeks, the entire fleet of the Belgian company has been nailed to the ground and, despite staff made economically unemployed, losses have accumulated. The company, which has fixed costs like maintenance and leasing costs for its planes, would lose a million euros a day. According to our information, Brussels Airlines will thus find itself without cash as of May 15, which would plunge it de facto in bankruptcy.

The Belgian government would be ready to grant a bridge loan of 290 million euros to the airline company, and therefore indirectly to the Lufthansa group

After one (exeptional) year with small profit, BA financial results went down again, despite a passenger occupancy of +90% and a good yield rate. Nobody seems to be able to verify nor solve this problem and the challenge after Covid will be even higher, so...

You make it sound as if those Africans are flying for free.
No one outside Belgium will think of flying SN to NYC, unless they are booking through the star alliance group.
On the other hand Sn’s routes to Africa are well know by
Those who travel to that continent for work pleasure or family visits. The Africa market is an asset for SN. I think that it should be maintained, and further developed.

It all depends on the Covid situation in the African countries, if it's still unsafe the Belgian government won't grant any traffic between 2 continents

Brussels Airlines indicated this Saturday morning that it still plans to resume some of its flights on May 15. "It goes without saying that we are monitoring the situation very, very closely. At this stage, we are still betting on May 15. In the coming days, we will see if this date is still realistic and we will make a final decision", said a spokesperson to Belga news agency.

Maybe travel within the Schengen zone might be allowed sooner?

As businesses are allowed to open waay before visiting family and friends is allowed, maybe business trips are allowed before leisure travelling is allowed?
And the decision of the safety council is for Belgians, there was no word on opening the borders (and thus allowing flights) for foreigners.

OOSNE was expected to operate the last repatriation flight from Tenerife to Brussels Airport for a while but is grounded in Tenerife with a technical problem.
OOTCV is on its way to replace OOSNE. Landing expected around 23h local time.

The 300 millions fund by the state is on its way, but this is only temporary. It should be used 100% for operational costs, but as our country has a reputation for illogical behaviour, a very big part will be used to pay out golden handshakes to the older managers in the B.house, for whom this is the now moment to bailout...

Air France - KLM group receives stated aid for 12 billion, Brussels Airlines only asks 290 million.

There is a rumour that about 20 years ago, the French government allegedly bought two business class seats on every Air France flight. To avoid a fine by the European Commission. When Sabena went bankrupt, DAT (SN Brussels Airlines) was created with a bare minimum of starting capital, the Flemish government even didn't participate! The same time SWISS received at least one billion to restart.

Alitalia has been dead for many years, but they keep on going. Rescued by the Italian government.

I feel Belgians should be more proud of their Belgian companies,

History repeats itself …

Then Belgians should show more fiscal responsibility so the government has money to spend. For 2020 Belgium was predicted to have the highest budget deficit out of all EU countries! :o That hardly leaves any room to subsidize airlines.
