Oops! It's Wednesday, 18 September, of course!

KLM announcement, Amstelveen, 16 September 2019

Announced work interruption on Wednesday, September 18

FNV has announced that part of the ground staff will interrupt work on Wednesday, September 18, a.s from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. KLM does not consider this a good decision, not for its customers, not for its employees and not for KLM's reputation. KLM has made a fair final offer on wages and is prepared to continue to discuss substantive matters with the unions. In this final offer, KLM offers a structural wage increase of 7% with a collective agreement term of 2 years and 9 months. KLM has also made an alternative wage offer with a structural wage increase of 8.5% with an adjustment of the profit-sharing scheme. Striking does not change this final bid and for every 10 million euros that the work break costs, the average KLM employee pays 150 euros from his profit sharing.

The pilots just called off the planned 27 September strike. But BA management already cancelled all flights. Will the company reinstate them?

Alitalia pilots and flight attendants are preparing to strike on Wednesday, October 9th, but the disruption is expected to start from Tuesday evening. 200 flights (mainly domestic) have already been cancelled.

The strike called by the unions over the lack of clarity in the bailout of the airline. Methinks that the strike is unlikely to clarify the issue.

Lufthansa has invited representatives of three unions for talks on a wage dispute that threatens to ground the airline’s German fleet for 48 hours from late on 06 November 2019.

Will the strike go on? Wait and see..., but to be on the safe side, Lufthansa has already cancelled 1300 flights over the two days.

For those two SN-flights, which flights are cancelled/delayed? Or where these planes otherwise just standing still at BRU?

There are less flights during the winter schedule, thus planes are easily available.

Why don't they use those available planes in the winter schedule to (new) "business destinations" as often referred to on this forum? Especially the 07:05-slot would make a great option for business travellers, and I assume there will be room in the evening too.

Because it is also a very good moment to do some maintenance on the fleet that is impossible when all planes are flying at max operational capacity.

Air France ground crew will be joining other transport unions in nationwide strike action in France in December 2019, as unions called for ‘the blocking of all transport’.

Lufthansa cabin crew strike officially ended, although more strikes are expected in the near future if talks fail to yield a solution.

The strike continues, though some intertcontinental flights will operate today:
Johannesburg, 17 November 2019 - South African Airways (SAA) will reinstate international flights to seven international destinations from Sunday night – November 17 - and has advised passengers to report to their departure airport as normal when in possession of a rebooked itinerary. “On behalf of South African Airways, I wish to apologise to all our passengers for the inconvenience and frustration caused by the cancellation of flights as a result of ongoing industrial action by the South African Cabin Crew Association and the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa. Our passengers deserve a smooth and a convenient service when they fly with South African Airways,” said SAA Chief Commercial Officer, Philip Saunders.

SAA took a decision to reinstate international service on its route network after assessment of its personnel numbers who are available and willing to operate the flights. Whilst some employees are on strike and have elected to do so in exercising their rights, the airline has a duty to render services to its customers where it has employees who have elected to report for work. All employees have rights protected in law on both sides of the divide. “We hope all our customers understand that the cancellations were beyond our control. We pledged to rebook all passengers caught up in the flight cancellations. We are working hard towards this goal and we are pleased to resume flights to all our international destinations,” Saunders said.

The seven destinations are New York, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong, Perth, London, Frankfurt, and Washington. Flights will depart from OR Tambo International Airport. Customers are requested not to travel to their departure airport unless in possession of a rebooked itinerary. SAA has been working with its sister airline, Mango, to re-accommodate as many customers as possible travelling on domestic services. Depending on availability, customers traveling to regional destinations are being re-accommodated on Airlink, a partner airline of SAA, and other airlines where possible. Customers seeking a refund or wishing to rebook their travel on a future SAA service have until 30 November 2019 to finalise their arrangements.

Remark: for outgoing passengers from the EU to South Africa, European legislation applies (EU Rule 261/2004). Example: assistance is compulsary, and a hotel must be provided when passengers are stranded. EU Rule 261/2004 does not apply for flights out of SA to Europe.
