Air Senegal only has one A339 with a second one on order. I wonder how they will manage to fly to CDG, BRU and IAD if those two last destinations become reality?

Yeah I figured out that one. Was thinking what would happen if one aircraft gets for example stuck in Brussels when there is a snowstorm or has technical problems...

in case of a snowstorm grounding the plane my bet is on IAD rather than BRU.

Of course they could lease one or more relatively soon. And there's the irony where they could rapidly build a frequent service in BRU while SN remains stuck with larger A330's flying less full due to their competition.

A lot of wishful thinking I guess. I don't know how big the Senegalese market from and to BRU is, but with an average GDP per capita of roughly 1500 EUR in Senegal, traffic must mainly come from the Senegalese diaspora in Brussels/Europe. US passengers would still prefer to do a UA/SN combination between the US and Senegal.
There is huge West African community in US East Cost, mainly from Cape Verde (53 000 in Massachusetts), Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia. That's why most US Africa air services are operated from East Coast. Air Senegal could have a commercial partnership with US carrier, if they want to better feed their IAD-DKR. Competition is stiff, but If Air Senegal has a good feeback, peope will fly with Air Senegal

They also eye London, Geneva and some French Cities, such as Marseille or Toulouse.

This winter, they will change their timetables at Paris, to enable connecting at Dakar to their West African destinations. They have an interline agreements with AF, so they use Terminal 2E (Air France long haul flights and non Schengen flights) at Paris CDG.

So i guess if they serve BRU, they will also attract connecting pax, not only point to point pax.

80% of intercontinental traffic linking Africa to other continents is carried by foreign companies. If African states change their mind to improve African Aviation and African airlines are better managed, Africans Airlines could reduce the gap : https://www.theafricareport.com/16559/a ... le-routes/

They are new summer routes, but they are not really new, as they are launched already for winter 2019-2020.

TLspotting wrote: 24 Sep 2019, 20:06 Might be possible that an African airline (SN destination) can open in 2020, a route to Brussels.

It can be speculation but the airline would like to open there.

So not 100% sure.
Keep an eye on Air Senegal. They will announce this week the new destinations for their second A330.
For the moment, BRU is not their first priority. What they want to open now is a second French destination, Marseille. The other destinations are Barcelona, Washington and New York.

We will know more this week

Like we could read here in this topic regarding South Afrika and Kenia. Forget about the first one. SAA is in trouble for years and they also axed their IAD route. SN has not the planes. This route could be only 2 max 3 times a week but there are no candidates.

Regarding South America. Keep an eye on Delta. They are building up a very interesting network. They "buy" other airlines but they don't let them to have a membership with Skyteam. Those airlines are spread over the continents. I would not be surprised if in a few years they create a new alliance and going out of Skyteam. That's why contacts with Delta are extremely important. Boston can be still with them. South America not as they would like you to go via Atlanta.

Avianca is than the only good solution and giving SIA fifth freedom if you want to keep it in one alliance

We know: Air Senegal plans to commence Dakar – Marseille – Barcelona – Dakar route on 09 December 2019. But indeed BRU is not yet in the picture.

DL relies heavily on its different joint-ventures and with AF/KL being on of them, there is no place for BRU in the scheme, except for select flights they already offer today.

And according to the latest, first flights to The States will be next year. Those will be also direct flights.
BRU is totally not in the picture
