If only....

Still think renaming Brussels Airlines back to Sabena would be great (on so many levels)!
Oh yes, for sure!

Bring the legendary brand back! ;-)

Think that topic was already many times discussed but indeed, this kind of move would surely generate a big buzzz in terms of marketing and communication...

And remember that CS / LH still are sceptic about the weakness of the brussels airlines brand...

Who owns the Sabena brand today, by the way ?

Would this resurrection of the name be feasible?

The question has been asked several times. If my memory serves me well, the name belongs to the curator of the bankruptcy.

If airplanes today get minimal repaint to cut costs, I think a (massive) complete overhaul of the brand is out of the question, unless LH would be willing to take on the costs, but I highly doubt it.

The S-tail was a classic (and classy) livery and the company was on another level then Brussels Airlines. But let the bygones be bygones. A hybrid service imho wouldn't fit an airline with the class (*) of Sabena, so what to do with the leisure flights? Re-erect Sobelair as well?

(*) Kind of strange to talk about class when a company was in such financial distress, but Sabena had some grandeur, Brussels Airlines imho today, as actually most of the airline industry, has lost.

I looked. It make sense to go after the Moscow vv. Latin America market seeing LIS location, same goes for TLV vv. USA. As far as transatlantic is concerned they plug into Star Alliance hubs (UA) and compete for traffic from/to Iberian peninsula and the rest of Southern Europe. They also have more efficient planes (a321LR and A330N), they ought to pay a premium for that. They are also much more dominant on their home market than SN currently is.

History has shown rapid expansions less than often end well. Time will tell and I wish them all the best of course.

I m happy to see that Kigali will be one of first African destinations, to be served by SN three class A330-300 8-)

Brussels Airlines will be the third airline to provide Premium Class to and from Rwanda, after KLM and RwandAir. SN will also operate the largest aircraft (seat capacity) to Kigali:

RwandAir A330-300: 274 seats
Qatar Airways B787-8: 254 seats

brussels airlines in recent schedule update opened reservation for Premium Economy Class cabin on flights to Africa, gradually available between October 2019 and May 2020. The airline anticipates all long-haul service to feature Premium Economy by May 2020, although this date may change.

If XL airways is really going bankrupt, there will be 4 A332 with Trent engines on the market maybe one or two for Brussels Airlines?

If SN wants to grow and become a network airline, you would imagine they would work on and develop further their existing destinations.

First they need smaller planes (Embraer/A220). The A319 is too big to fly multiple daily to destinations as Bristol.

That's why Bristol, Hannover, Billund, Nantes, Bordeaux, etc. are subcontracted to CityJet and its CRJ-900s.
On French Aviation forum, some people are saying, that SN will end its double daily service to Nantes, from 23 November 2019, anyone can confirm ? Thanks

I cannot confirm, but I always thought a CRJ900 is too big for Nantes, and since there no more a subcontractors like flybmi with smaller planes...

In deed i have just seen archives, on French Forum, the Nantes Brussels service opened in 2016 and was first of all operated by a FlyBmi ERJ145. You can see also some FlyBe (SN livery) Q400 and CityJet (SN livery) SSJ pics at Nantes, on JP.Net

Brussels Airlines made the last flight on the route Kiev – Brussels and will stop flying to Ukraine due to optimisations of its network.

Recent ? Current !!!! Cotonou Abidjan arrival flight canceled today ! And a forumer wondered why there were about more or less sixty empty seats on African flights. I have a track start!

Since Brussels Airlines was acquired by Lufthansa Group, there's never been so much problems !! There are a lot of problems : lack of new aircrafts, poor management in scheduling of aircraft....
At this moment it's the only airline in the group to be so bad and Lufthansa has to laugh about it and worry about it !!

Well this one is the direct consequence of not operating the outbound flight yesterday.

As I wrote :

Latest news from the hospital :
SN299 to ABJ was to be operated by OO-SFF today.
Early this morning, the flight departure time was postponed to 14:00, then 14:30.
At 11:30, SFF was replaced by SFG. Half an hour later, the flight was cancelled.

Today Golf still doesn't feel fit to operate SN277 to Accra and will stay in bed.
She is to run ABJ again tomorrow 22SEP.

Besides the trouble for the passengers, I feel especially for the gals and boys in Ops, Mx, and those facing customers to have to live this so often.
"OK, drop Golf we won't fix it in time. Let's focus on Foxtrot to send her; Ops has pushed the STD by two hours".
Ladies and gentlemen, we are sorry to announce that the flight to xyz is further delayed by 2 hours. The new gate is A67....

Longhaul is where SN makes money, right?

It seems the problems with the A333's are mostly happening with OO-SFE, -SFF and SFG, so the newer and most recently introduced ex-SQ or ex-CX aircraft.
Is this a coincidence?
I thought the newer aircraft would reduce the operational difficulties...

Duke

I am very curious about the plan LH has for SN... Will the airline finally be treated like a family member or still like an unwanted child?

They have ordered up to 40 new B787/A350 for everyone

Image

... except SN.

Yes bcs remember the last statement of SN that they are responsible on their own regarding the new fleet and the finance of it. So don't expect that LH will order sth for SN. SN is alone. High time to understand this

I don't understand why Lufthansa bought Brussels Airlines if there is no investment or interest in the end ?!! It's a shame, i see a desire of germans to drop the company step by step....
