Hainan will not resume daily flights to Beijing as from next Summer season but only 5 times a week. The A333 stays the aircraft on that route.

The Shenzhen flight will go down again to twice a week

Dear Atlantis,
What happen with Hainan Airlines for Brussels? No more Shanghai, no daily flights to Beijing and reduced flights to Shenzhen... Hainan plans to leave the airport in the future??

Well i think, the not good financial status of the airline is one of the reasons. And it is not BRU only. They closed a lot of International routes the last weeks.

Dublin-Shenzen
Shanghai-Tel Aviv
Xian-Melbourne
Beijing-Calgary
Beijing-Las Vegas

I just checked United’s website. And the 787-10 is coming back on the route from 29 march.

The HNA group is not in a good shape. They sell some parts of the group.
So far no single indication that they want to leave.

Let's hope they will do better in the future

A major setback to the very ambitious plans they once had...

Could this open the door for SN to operate to China, at least PEK? I mean it's too big of a market to be absent.

If the market really is there, I'd rather guess Air China would jump in.

SN has no planes for this and it would be a totally unknown adventure for them. Better for SN is to work further in Africa where they still can make some money as they are known on the continent.

Regarding HU and China. There is for sure potential. Many companies in Belgium are in hands of Chinese investors, Belgium is doing also business there and we speak also about the huge tourist industry. It would be a huge shame to lose that market. But this is not the current situation.

I think that Air China could not, under the treaties, open a Beijing Brussels unless Hainan withdrew but could open a PVG or another Chinese city to BRU currently not served ...

Might be possible that an African airline (SN destination) can open in 2020, a route to Brussels.

It can be speculation but the airline would like to open there.

So not 100% sure.

Another idea. A revival.
No mention of Brussels as a future destination but a new african player in the skies from Entebbe. With a long haul project.
Cheers

They are also eyeing (dreaming of) a flight to IAD...

A lot of wishful thinking I guess. I don't know how big the Senegalese market from and to BRU is, but with an average GDP per capita of roughly 1500 EUR in Senegal, traffic must mainly come from the Senegalese diaspora in Brussels/Europe. US passengers would still prefer to do a UA/SN combination between the US and Senegal.
