I would love to have a route between Asturias(OVD) and Brussels. Zaventem would be a great option. Brussels Airlines, Ryanair or Vueling would be interesting options.

There has been an OVD-BRU route in the past, operated by Iberia. It failed. Why would it be more successful now?

As I'm just an aviation lover and not someone that's 'in the business', I hope for next summer season we will see more new routes than 2019...
I've been reading this forum for a long time and we are in talks with some companies/destinations for years already.

Singapore?
Sao Paulo?
New York evening flight? (by SN?)
Boston?
San Francisco?
Brussels government went to Chengdu to start talks to open a route (first cargo, then pax)

More (business) destinations for SN?
- Which ones are missing?
- Are they still flying to Nurenberg?
- They upgraded Billund for this winter season (why is this place so popular besides Legoland?)
- Bristol and Hannover will be back soon
- Should they open flights to east Germany? (Leipzig/Dresden) Or is that too much of a risk.
- Ryanair stopped CRL - Wroclaw, the route that SN was going to start last year, but never did.
- How is their KIEV route?
- Any new African destinations in the pipeline? Since it's profitable as they always point out.
- Is SN now codesharing with ANA? and Hainan? And Cathay?

Would really like to see some *A company opening a direct Wroclaw connection. Need to go there often in the nearby future.
Now detour via FRA or MUC.

Ryanair via CRL, there's no other choice.

Or with LOT - BRU-WAW-WRO...

Also Frankfurt will receive a double daily flight of United ex-EWR.....

Hallo BRU, we need to expand, we are losing market as airports around us are still receiving extra flights.

Even AMS with slot restrictions till 2020 is receiving double daily flight of United. How is that possible?

2019 was too quiet. 2020 cannot be like this...

No doubt, and unfortunately, SN does not make weight as the main carrier at BRU...

The main carrier at AMS is from another alliance and has close ties with UA's biggest competitor DL. Still UA has a much bigger operation at AMS than at BRU.

Of course, this remark is not valid for FRA or MUC ... and AMS has 3 times more potential customers than BRU ... so ! Sad !

It's like they ignore BRU. Expantion at AMS and FRA.
While 3 years ago they want to start up the double daily flight from BRU. So what is changed in their concept as in those three years there are even much more pax and much more Star long haul flights at BRU?

The only change of UA at BRU was to fly with the B787-10.

So let's hope that AA will start up flights at BRU as they are small at AMS.

AMS has 2,5 times the passengers BRU has but AMS is making a real difference on transfer activities. The Netherlands has more economic power and bigger companies, but Brussels has the EU, NATO,... Amsterdam has a bigger tourist economy but those are mainly lower end passengers.

Back in the days BRU was one of CO's cash cows, I can only assume it's the same for UA (bigger airline, more routes, more flying) and upgrading the flight to daily 781 proves so, so the potential market is there and Sabena's old evening flight to NYC was one of the only good flights it had.

Maybe they too stay in the dark about whatever LH has in mind for SN...?

Yeah, but this is the same for other airports too where they were flying. It didn't had only impact on BRU.

The fact is that established huge carriers should expand more. But as we can see, they all want to fly even more to saturated airports like LHR, AMS where even competition is so much higher.

One of the issues is that SN is on a stand still. They offer too much leisure flights. Who from Tokyo, Thailand, The States, etc etc are interested to take such a connecting flight? No one.

SN should open more direct flights to business destinations with a high frequency

Why all those other airlines still want to fly to saturated LHR, AMS or FRA, bcs the home carrier is strong and is flying mainly to business destinations. This is what your transfer and transit is also increasing a lot.

You can try and try to convince long haul carriers to fly to BRU but if your home carrier is flying to Lanzarote, they will even not consider it.

This last sentence was sarcastic, I know, but I think you understand my point

It can be. As long as we don't know before the end of this third quarter what LH wants to do with SN. After it will open more cards I think.

I don't believe the stories which we could read on this forum that LH is waiting and let SN suffer with failing long haul planes to sell them in the end.

Don't forget that LH bought SN very cheap. This was an other mistake of LH. Bcs they cannot sell SN under the price of which they bought it. LH has only benefit if SN is performing well, good financial figures, valuable business destinations, expensive slots, etc etc. On this way LH could still make profit if they would sell SN.
Which airline would buy SN if they fail all the time?? Nobody. So LH has to do an effort together with SN and to make it a real network carrier.

Neither do I believe LH wants to just kill off SN... Why would they? Killing SN is making every euro invested in them since 2009 a loss. Neither would they want to sell SN to the competition.

My best guess is when Wolfgang Mayrhuber was at the helm of LH there might have been real plans for SN. If I'm not mistaken, the price LH had to pay for the remaining shares depended on the performance of the company so LH had no advantage to make SN into a success until they fully acquired the company.

In the meantime LH had a new chairman, LH wanted to have its own low cost subsidiary and SN (in Europe already a hybrid carrier) was ideal to speed up things.

I don't have a clue what LH's strategy behind SN is. Make money and you'll get money is a stupid strategy. You need to invest to grow even if that comes at some years of losses (which in turn are offset by LHG profits). Having SN as something in between, not investing money in it is a recipe for disaster.

Nobody knows for sure what the plan is. Let's hope that at the end of next month it will be more clear.

If they don't do anything with SN it would be a big mistake. This is a catch area of more or less 20 million pax, Belgium and parts of NL, DE and FR.
This would be eaten by other carriers

From Summer 2020 United will introduce the 787 on international routes from ORD replacing the 777. It seems BRU, FRA and MUC are becoming the first routes. Still routes not yet confirmed.

Hoping for the B787-10 which would make two of them daily with UA
