Thanks for these lessons in aerodynamics! The article wanted only to compare the performance of Spohr with the one of an aircraft close to a stall...

Lufthansa chief executive Carsten Spohr (the man of the Eurowings debacle) says Ryanair is “irresponsible” for charging less than €10 for tickets on certain German routes while adding the airline won’t be pushed out of its home market. That remains to be seen!

Re: Lufthansa in 2019
Unfortunately, the above quote is not what Carsten Spohr said about those 10 € tickets. Actually, if one reads what he really said, one can only agree with him:
https://nzzas.nzz.ch/wirtschaft/lufthan ... ld.1495780
The quote is taken out of context from a very long interview Neue Zürcher Zeitung am Sonndag had with him about aviation pollution, CO² emissions, aviation taxes etc. The real quote is this (translated via Translate.Google): These ultra-low-priced offerings make our industry a target for criticism. And at the same time it clogs the airspace, stimulating an artificial demand that would not exist at realistic prices. Flights for less than ten € should not exist.
Question: Dann sagen Sie selbst, fliegen sei zu billig?
Re: Lufthansa in 2019
CS is right, of course, but he would not have said that if EW had been a success. Now, he's trying to fight mainly Ryanair in a different way.
Re: Lufthansa in 2019
That's exactly why we need to tax Airlines tickets!
Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: Lufthansa in 2019
Actually, I pay for the voluntary compensation of CO² emissions when it is possible. However, what upsets me it, is that , for instance, an airline like KLM, did not refund this amount when I cancelled my ticket (let alone the additional fees for seat selection etc...).
Anyway, at the risk of attrackting the anger of most of the members on this Forum, I think that on account of the current climate situation, no airline ticket within Europe should be sold for less than 100 euros one way + (real) taxes.
As already said before, it is not normal that you can fly to a city in Europe for less than a train ticket to the Belgian coast or the Ardennes, or even Paris or Amsterdam.
However, the airline sector should not only be targetted, the cruise industry, for instance, is probably as much, if not more, a polluter than the airlines.

Re: Lufthansa in 2019
Well yes that's exactly my point.
Why are you in favor of a "so anyway it's no big deal" tax ???

Nothing will change with "no big deal taxes".
Re: Lufthansa in 2019
I mean it's no big deal for the passenger but it will create an amount to invest in new technologies etc....
Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: Lufthansa in 2019
That's wrong, there is no magical point where taxes have an influence. A low tax will have a little influence and a high tax a lot. If it was true that a few euro's would't change consumer behavior I'm sure airlines would already have increased the price of their tickets by that amount.

Re: Lufthansa in 2019
Hi,
Maybe fair or not.. start taxing flight tickets and you loose a LOT of jobs,
LCC airlines will go bust and flying will be again only for the rich ...
Will you save the climate... NOPE...
As airtraffic is just a very small piece of the climate cake ! 3 percent..
Next COWS and their farts, energy industries... on what exhausts will your electric car drive anyway ?
CARBON fuels or NUCLEAR ?? Forget sun and wind if we go all this way...
Anyone travelled to Poland/China/Brasil/Asia-Africa ?
Are they starting the climate fight...
If not , it is just a drop..
I don't say nothing must change but if you change something I hope it will have a result and not only of making us in europe less happy and more poor, because that is what the result will be at this point..
AIRTRAFFIC IS an EASY target to gain votes for... but electric power - farm industry is a bigger lobby to fight !
IMHO...

Re: Lufthansa in 2019
I don't remember but somebody here on the forum proposed to tax the jet fuel like everything else that could be a good idea and equal to other industries instead of a tax it will bring also much more money.cathay belgium wrote: ↑17 Jul 2019, 22:29Hi,

Re: Lufthansa in 2019
A few euro's don't change consumer behaviour, but what matters is who's cheapest, even by a few euro's. And that's where competition comes into play: if they should all agree to increase the price by a few euro's, that wouldn't make a difference in consumer behaviour, but one player isn't going to add those euro's when the other players aren't, as that will drive consumers to the player with the lowest prices. But a general tax creates a level playing field: it's (about) the same for everyone. (Depending on the base of the tax, type of aircraft,...)Jetter wrote: ↑17 Jul 2019, 22:20That's wrong, there is no magical point where taxes have an influence. Lufthansa currently wet-leases an Avro RJ85 from CityJet, which operates several rotations between Frankfurt and Brussels.

But the route is flown with CRJ-900 as well. Isn't the Avro better, more comfortable for passengers?sn26567 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2019, 12:12Lufthansa currently wet-leases an Avro RJ85 from CityJet, which operates several rotations between Frankfurt and Brussels.
https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/city ... d-leipzig/The CityJet Avro RJ85 is configured in a dense 6-across layout. A change of comfort level for the regular Lufthansa passenger!
