Today the Dutch Parliament (Tweede Kamer) discusses 'aviation' with minister Cora Van Nieuwenhuizen. Two political parties supporting the government want an end to night flights at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport: D66 (19 seats on 150) and ChristenUnie (5 seats). Their request for an immediate night curfew is supported by Groen-Links (14 seats), with some other parties insisting more on a reduce on short term and an end on long term. Minister Van Nieuwenhuizen is VVD (counterpart of VLD and MR), and she's not in favour of a night curfew.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport may gain 40,000 more aircraft slots if it meets strict new government criteria on noise levels.

Dozens of aircraft are stuck at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol due to malfunction of the refuelling system.

But some people will pretend that everything at AMS is better than BRU...

Well, to be honest, I had a very good experience with AMS.
On July 20, a very busy day at AMS, our flight (GA 88 from Jakarta) landed at 7.28 am.
At 8.10 am we were already in our car on our way home (luggage delivery, customs, etc... in less than 40 minutes)... this was a pleasant surprise...

On our way out, check-in, customs were also very swift...

So, for me, indeed no negative comments on AMS...

Regards,

Duke

Flew from AMS in 2016. I'll try to avoid it at any cost in the future.

I never have had a bad experience with KL or AMS. I flew them in januari to Panama City. Amazing service. Neither have I with Brussels. I am now on my way home from BRU, coming from TLV. The electronic customs were working very well. I didn't have to wait at all.

If you had gone through AMS today: 254 flights cancelled, 446 flights delayed, and counting...

And AMS was very fast in the communication today that PAX has no rights for a single compensation from the airport itself.

Ultimate chaos still ongoing at AMS. More then 180 flights simply cancelled, and a few hundred more flights delayed. All hotels are full, there are not enough folding beds at the airport for the stranded pax, people will have to sleep on the ground. Dutch press: "there is a grimly atmosphere tonight".

Third time in a few months AMS Schiphol has such a major breakdown. First power failure, then luggage belt failure, now the fuel supply system.

I will never fly from AMS again, a total disaster last year..Unfriendly at transit checks, took us 50 min to go from international gates incoming from Ecuador to the remote stands for our flight to BRU..Overbookings next to us with no results,etc..

Fuel is flowing again at AMS (since 21:00 yesterday), but the consequences remain: KLM cancels 61 flights today.

Indeed this is a big shame. How it can happen is difficult to understand. Why they have no back-up system ?
Scandal.
If they pay no compensation, then indeed it is totally unacceptable.

One wonders why airports do not collaborate for such cases.
Thousands of PAX could have been diverted to DUS or BRU, and EDH for shorter distances.
Trains and busses can move PAX in comfortable way and release pressure on the chaos in AMS.

Maybe BeNeLux governments should sit together and make laws/agreements to coop with such situations, which seem to happen more and more.

How long will PAX take this un-human treatment. ???

Schiphol statement:

"100 flights to and from Schiphol today have been cancelled by various airlines. We advise travellers with cancelled flights to contact their airline by phone, email or app instead of coming directly to the airport."
