Very good news. But now you can expect intense lobbying by Boeing and by Airlines for America to get limits as low as possible. Hopefully consumer associations will lobby in the opposite way, in the name of safety.

Forgot it: safety is indeed the only reason why there must be a minimum space.

Yesterday, the Trump administration drew up a new list of EU imports to hit with tariffs. Among them, Airbus aircraft, because of the alleged subsidies that are given to the aircraft manufacturer.

But recently the World Trade Organization has already ruled that in fact, it was Boeing that got the most subsidies.

Thus, the European Commission has begun preparations for possible retaliation against Boeing subsidies.

Turkey’s president said his government may have to “rethink” existing orders for 100 Boeing aeroplanes worth about US$10 billion, in comments that reflect the country’s strained ties with the US over defence issues.

Trump is already wondering what airport will bear his name

The president has been asking aides and advisers what the process is for getting an airport named after him—another sign his mind is drifting to a post-presidency.

EU will seek a swift resolution of a 16-year battle over aircraft subsidies with US President-elect Joe Biden, saying that new US tariffs have damaged talks with the Trump administration.

Elaine Chao, the secretary of transportation and thus responsible for aviation (she is also the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell), is resigning, the first cabinet official to do so over the Capitol siege.

Ms. Chao joins a growing exodus of administration officials after President Trump’s incitement of a mob that stormed the Capitol.

Five senior Trump appointees at the FAA have announced their resignations, in response to Wednesday’s rioting at the Capitol incited by President Trump.

PHOTO OF THE DAY: While in office, Trump tried to repaint Air Force One red, white and blue. Like a lot of his worst ideas, that never happened, but he did have a model of the plane that he kept in the Oval Office and that often appeared in official photos with world leaders. He apparently really liked the souvenir, because instead of leaving it behind for Biden, Trump packed it up and brought it down to Mar-a-Lago, where it’s now prominently displayed on a coffee table in the lobby.

The current AF1-scheme is too iconic to be removed imho.
