Somewhat reassuring news at https://www.7sur7.be/7s7/fr/1536/Econom ... ines.dhtml stating that SN result is positive but of course shall improve.BrightCedars wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 13:21 Brussels Airlines, a.k.a. Eurowings will get a shitload of used A330s it seems. I just hope that LH Group will take this into account when they compare the efficiency and returns of each component in the group. SN/EW may very well use BRU as a hub for long-haul flights but that doesn't seem to be a priority, although that would be a good way to hit at other low cost operators such as Norwegian. Of course it'll also hit at the established less efficient historical network carriers of which LH is an example. A bit of a schizophrenic situation if you ask me, and that doesn't bode too well for the future.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Not necessarily a problem tough. the used A330's are all maximum 10y old so it seems with quite efficient Trent 700 engines. Not only that: Brussels Airlines doesn't really has flights of 11+ hours. The A330's are perfect.BrightCedars wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 13:21 Brussels Airlines, a.k.a. Eurowings will get a shitload of used A330s it seems.
A350's is overkill for Brussels Airlines. The B787-8 however would fill in some niches for Brussels Airlines tough...
I would be more worried if Brussels Airlines got the old 767's or 777's of Austrian.... Or even worse: Lufthansa's written A340's ( both 300 and 600's )
Trust me, there are some A340-600's of Lufthansa in the dessert right now, ready to be written of. They could have given it to Brussels airlines to destroy Brussels Airlines

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Maybe I was a bit to quick with my reaction yesterday.
OS of course is in much bigger need of new equipment since their 767/777 are way older then SN's incoming A330-fleet, besides these fairly young birds are quite sufficient for SN ops...
And LH wanting to get rid of thirsty A340's seems logical as well. A replacement with A350 is the logical consequence then.
I am just hoping for some positive news for SN at BRU as well...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I thought that the 346 would have been a perfect plane for Brussels Airlines it's true it consumes a lot but it can take a lot of cargo(payload)also perfect for their African market.Matt wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 15:24Not necessarily a problem tough. the used A330's are all maximum 10y old so it seems with quite efficient Trent 700 engines. But I do not have the experience to judge it.
And it also depends on the lease price I suppose?

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
It's the worst plane for SN ... remember the hifly they got last minute .. it got stuck on the runway cause it couldn't turn ... it's too long and some African destinations have the runway as taxiway where they have to make a full turn so in terms of planes this isn't the best plane for SN but the A330 still islumumba wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 18:57I thought that the 346 would have been a perfect plane for Brussels Airlines it's true it consumes a lot but it can take a lot of cargo(payload)also perfect for their African market.Matt wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 15:24Not necessarily a problem tough. the used A330's are all maximum 10y old so it seems with quite efficient Trent 700 engines. Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Let me be the Devil's advocate...
Please stick to A330-300's even if they're second hand until the fleet is at least 20 aircraft, then start thinking about a second type.
Cheers,
Stij

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Brussels Airlines is dominated by Germans, so the only option to see a 787 with Belgian reg with LH is with Eurowings...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
OO-SFK being baptized "Belgian" today: it's on its way to Dakar as SN203 for its first revenue flight under the EW livery.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I didn't mean it as a problem, the A330 can offer a very comfortable ride and I agree that SN doesn't have +11hrs destinations for now. Nor could they with this fleet if they wanted to...Matt wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 15:24Not necessarily a problem tough.BrightCedars wrote: ↑14 Mar 2019, 13:21 Brussels Airlines, a.k.a. An a330-200 has a range of 13400km... Technically it's possible...BrightCedars wrote: ↑19 Mar 2019, 10:08I didn't mean it as a problem, the A330 can offer a very comfortable ride and I agree that SN doesn't have +11hrs destinations for now. Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I'm not sure al the A330 have the same capabilities for example SFO,M,N did not have this capability!
Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
For sure! But on March 14th the flight was performed by N814NW, an aircraft delivered in 2007...

So the generation SN is getting now I presume...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Somewhere from around MSN 500 the standard range capability increased dramatically for the A330-300, at least 1300nm more than the early birds like SFO-M-N-V-W.
SFK (MSN 570) is one of earlier birds that had the increased MTOW modification standard in the production line, up until then it was up to the customer's choice (and wallet).
Much later MSN's also had the option for the activated center tank, giving it almost the same range as the -200's (but with a smaller payload due to the higher OEW).
All of the 'new' A330's will be able to fly ±5000nm with max passenger capacity (no cargo).

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Is OO-SFU experiencing problems again? It hasn't flown for more than a week. It has "just" spent over 3 weeks in Lisbon in February (assuming for maintenance).
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I saw that 'City of Prague' (OK-NEP) is flying for SN to TLS
Is this plane permanently going to fly for SN? I would find that a bit upsetting, Brussels Airlines with its 'Belgian icon' planes, suddenly flying around with advertisement for another city..
