Well people are getting paranoia now. Yesterday in Warsaw as well... people were demanding another aircraft from LOT...

True, but the half of their short-haul fleet is flying in North America at this moment... Finding alternatives will not be that simple...Matt wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 09:24TUI fly BE only has 4 B737-MAX 8 aircraft.Luke777 wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 09:21read between the lines: the economical impact could wipe us out...luchtzak wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 08:47

Grounding 4 aircraft would not wipe them out... the PR however...

Malaysia and South Korea to disallow Boeing 737 MAX operations in their territory.
Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi
Oman is the first country in the Gulf to ban Boeing 737 MAX jets from operating to/from the country. The Sultanate of Oman has grounded Oman Air’s 737 MAX fleet.

And probably he's right, but I don't fly the plane until Boeing has implemented the modifications.luchtzak wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 08:47

Now UK CAA has grounded the 73M as well. Am I the only one in thinking the aviation authorities know more than we do? I cant be just public pressure?
Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi
Hello
it also states the similarity of both crashes... and even other operators with 737max are not allowed to fly to the UK anymore.
Greetings,
All my posted timings are local !

If this continues like that TUI Belgium/Netherlands might be the sole company flying the birds in this region since their sister company in the UK can't fly them either due to the blanket ban of the CAA in the UK.

Unrelated (but not totally): Lion Air (Indonesia) is considering switching to the A320 family, including the A321neo, amid plans to suspend existing orders it has with Boeing. The carrier is suspending delivery of four B737 MAX it had on order for 2019.

Piet Demeyere, spokesman of TUI Belgium: "We are aware of media reports that the CAA has ordered that all 737 MAXs remain on the ground. We are evaluating these new facts and are not commenting at this time. As soon as we have more information, we will come back to you."

Probably only a matter of hours before EASA follows the U.K. CAA.
Norwegian are grounding their MAX fleet voluntarily.

Forcing at least two aircraft to head back to its destination of origin ?
LIVE: Two UK-bound Turkish Airlines 737 MAX flights (#TK1997 > London Gatwick & #TK1969 > Birmingham) have turned around over Europe since the UK's airspace ban of the type.
Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi
I'm starting to think the same, It's one thing that a small country grounds a particular plane but it's another thing when a major (and upcoming) country/market like China grounds the planes. It even becomes more significant when "blanket bans" are being issued against operating the planes in sovereign airspace. And when the British CAA does something like this it could be telling.
I guess some things will become clear in the next couple of days. BTW, where are the DFDR and DCVR send too? BEA, the AAIB or the NTSB? I'm guessing that Ethiopia isn't capable to read these?

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi
Could also be company decision as the aircraft would be grounded upon landing and that would make you "depend on" the decisions of the country before you can act as a company yourself. Staying out of the airspace gives you more future freedom with the aircraft.

My god. Indeed, their PR is a f* shame. How can they say something like that when the rest of the world decided differently.Matt wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 09:24TUI fly BE only has 4 B737-MAX 8 aircraft.Luke777 wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 09:21read between the lines: the economical impact could wipe us out...luchtzak wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 08:47

Well done TUI, well done.Yesterday on the radio: TUI passengers that no longer have confidence in Max8 can choose other acft type but first have to pay for extra cost...
Very classy. Very familly oriented.
My messages reflect my personal opinion which may be different than yours. I beleive a forum is made to create a debate so I encourage people to express themselves, the way they want, with the ideas they want. I expect the same understanding in return.
Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi
I think it might be a good idea to have more thorough inspections before granting an type certificate to a new plane, certainly when it's a supplemental one like with the MAX. It's become clear that the MAX is not just a (major) update of the previous versions but that it was altered quite a bit (new positions for the engines, supplemental system to compensate for the instability due the changed position of the engines, etc...). Yet it's still being seen als just another new version of the original 1960's 737 while it's (except for part of the fuselage) virtually a complete new plane with mix matched old en new technology. I think it might be a wise idea to have them certificate these planes as new planes instead. And better oversight wouldn't be a bad idea either, now the manufacturer is responsible for the oversight with the FAA virtually just signing the paperwork.
And this goes for every manufacturer and responsible institute like EASA for example which follows quite same procedure as the FAA.
I truly hope it isn't a design flaw but the more we think about it the more likely it is that "something" is wrong. It could be as simple as a bad batch of electronics that sneaked through inspections, it could be a software bug but in the worst case it could be a design flaw...
Anyway, TUI Belgium is grounding the MAX also.

Fly first yes, absolutely. Always.
But don't think your manual flying skills will save you any day, any time. Overconfidence in your flying skills is karma's best friend.

Turkish Airlines Istanbul to Nouakchott on 737 MAX (TC-LCF) has also turned around.
