2017-2018 Airline Profitability and current state of things

Post by AlexC »

One could admit that is rather interesting to see that a 1 year old profitability chart and look at the current market situation in the last quarter of 2018.

Most of them have moved their current position, not only because of bad management and long lasting parasital money magnet Managerial boards, but due to the outstanding increase of fuel prices. Some would say fuel prices are just like weather and aren’t 100% predictable, but we all knew once all the Fuel Lords from OPEC decided to meet on a Sunday to stall the production of Crude oil back in 2017, we were definitely on the way to a much bigger disaster.

Furthermore, most of these Airliners give their ground handling service to 3rd party companies, losing with this any kind of corporate identity from the side of their workers. Sure we all love to get a bargain however, we cannot undermine the importance an Airline has on people that work for it.
Air Berlin is one of these companies that was long due to Bankruptcy! With all due respect to all workers and people working/worked directly or indirectly to Air Berlin, this was long inbound for collision. Interesting fact that the CEO who led this company to disaster was once CEO of Germanwings/ Eurowings and back in the day, Regional Manager for Lufthansa in the Americas. Taking in consideration Eurowings, (I mean Lufthansa )…that took over all of the major Airberlin Slots, it looks to me rather interesting that something like this just came out of nothing.
Lufthansa now operates 80% of Air berlin routes with the LOW COST Carrier Eurowings.

This is just one example of how the Bankruptcy of some, can be used to profit other airlines.
Later down the line, the Bankrupted NIKI Air, also daughter of AIRBERLIN merges with Ryanair in order to take over some of the routes and Aircraft from late Air berlin. Lufthansa, still holding several aircrafts delays the trespass some of these machines to Laudamotion ( Late NIKI AIR) in order to stall the all flights in the Summer months. Chaos and delays for a brand new airline.

Ryanair and Laudamotion have filed a formal complain to the EU, due to Lufthansas actions.
Sounds to me like Monopolies do exist, supported by one of the biggest Economies in Europe. Germany.
