Toyally agree with you on GvA's main stream. The turn was made when they kicked Roger Vanhoutte out and when Concentra / Ernst Bujok took over. Not only as Publisher, but also as editor. Since then, they are more "against those in favour of the airport", rather then "against the airport".

Regarding the runway extension: the protesters call the move of 15 meters "an extension". For those living on the Borsbeek site, it can be seen as a runway extension indeed because aircraft will get airborne 15 meters later...

I don't know about the nimby's, but more and more people choose ANR because it's conveniently "in their backyard", but not for the low fares as in most cases the ANR fares are the higher ones among the Belgian airports + EIN / MST.

According to this article on Hln (in dutch);
The number of complaints about ANR drops.

Summary:
Antwerp Airport received 64 percent less complaints from local residents than in the same period in 2017, although traffic increased. One resident sent 14 complaints. Some local politicians remain sceptical because complaints can now only be registered online and the system would not be flawless.

According to this article on Hln (in dutch);
HLN wrote:the airport invested a lot in better contact with the neighbors
wow...better than nothing. But what is long overdue, are some small adjustments to the noise abatement procedures that date from the days the Fokker 50's were brand new.
Boechout is the village with the highest no. of complaints, and some of these come from honest people (not the few, to be ignored, green fundamentalist fanatics). The original village of Boechout cannot be avoided if a pilot adheres to the published RWY 11 T/O noise procedures (except going northbound). Some small adjustments can put this routing more to the East over less populated, small industry area, with a.o. the La Rocca dancing. And thus avoiding the 'original' Boechout.
The Vremde village which was merged with Boechout (also in the statistics), you can't help. It's dead center on the extended centerline right in between OM (outer marker) and MM. 10% of the houses date from before the airport (OK, weak argument), 50% from the sixties of earlier (argument getting better), and the rest built 30-odd years ago (when the B737-200 was still thundering along) or less, mostly fancy detached houses/villa's, with a major upscale housing expansion area just NW of the village in former farmland, some of the houses exactly on the extended centerline (glideslope rwy29 is at 650ft on that spot).
On RWY29, of course, options are even more limited, but still, improvements can be done for the suburbs.
And maybe one day we'll have the E190 E2 :)

It didn’t take long. In a reaction on the decision of VLM to abandon most of its routes out of ANR, Tom Meeuws, leader of the socialist party (Sp-a) in Antwerp, says his party wants the airport to be closed. The city and the region do not need an airport for tourist flights, is their opinion. Also Green (the ecological party) wants to close the airport as fast as possible, which is of course nothing new.

Don't forget the poll on the website from local newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen!
https://www.gva.be/cnt/dmf20180807_0365 ... aven-dicht

the question GvA asks is: "Vindt u dat Antwerpen nood heeft aan een eigen luchthaven?" -> Do you think that the City of Antwerp needs an own airport?

Politics are "incontournable" here so please bear with me. The socio's show a marked lack of inspiration here, playing the same record that their forebear Bertrand played 50 or 60 or 70 years ago. Sounding quite grey, after all those years. But truly disappointing is to see dear old "Frutje" joining their chant.

Anyway the airport is to close to the city to grow and to become profitable in my opinion....

Also you have a very good connection with the train to Brussels Airport today.

have you seen the traffic growth figures @ANR recently?? With the A220 or the E190 E2, the technology (50+% noise footprint reduction) is there for sustained growth the coming years.
... and to become profitable
that will be more challenging...

Yeah, right! When I was still an SN customer, I hardly took the train; with 4 people the "airport taxi" was competitively priced and offered the flexibility needed (very early / late). And that for someone who has 6 train stations/stops within a 3 km radius.... The TUIfly / ANR combination gives me now 50min. from touchdown to my doorstep (incl. reclaiming the checked-in luggage), most of the time with 0 extra cost (thanks to neighbors, relatives,... that don't mind the short ride to and from ANR airport).

Did I already mention that I'm a fan of TUIfly @ ANR? :lol: :lol:

The ongoing discussion was on VRT Terzake on Wednesday 08th August 2018.

The 12 minutes item is probably only accessable for registered VRT.be-users. No big problem, registration is quickly done and free of charge:

After the demise of VLM, Antwerp Airport CEO Marcel Buelens confirms that he is looking for airlines to continue operating the strategic route to London City. Flybe is the prime target of the search.

Flybe has already accepted to increase the capacity between ANR and London Southend to make up for the loss of capacity on London City. It is unclear whether this means an increase of frequency or larger aeroplanes on existing schedules.
