Vietnam Airlines Airbus A321 (VN-A613) operating on flt #VN7344 from Ho Chi Minh City mistakenly landed on closed runway 20L at Nha Trang (CXR, VVCR). The A321 became stuck because the runway is lacking any taxiway. Both crew were suspended. (via https://twitter.com/JacdecNew )

This is actually Cam Ranh International Airport, hence VVCR, about 25km from the old Nha Trang airbase that is closed to civ traffic.

They did their best to sweep that new runway :

Well, they're not the first one to go for the wrong piece of pavement : see LH at Katowice in 2014.

Probably not funny for those who were blocked/delayed at Berlin SXF, but anyway: me thinks this story is on topic here:

"...7th August 2018 - A Terminal was partly evacuated at Berlin Schönefeld (SXF), after security alerted police over a device found during a routine X-ray check of a passenger’s bag. Writing in a post on social media, the passenger said that he’d been found by airport police at a passport control and was asked to follow security officials for questioning. “When I arrived, the terminal was being evacuated. I approached a police officer and told him that I needed to check my bag with the baggage handlers. He asked my name and for my passport. He then spoke into his radio and several armed police swarmed me with automatic weapons.” What was believed to be a hand grenade was in fact a vibrator purchased two weeks before, the passenger said. A spokesperson for the German Federal Police said the check-in around the area were closed off for an hour, affecting some flights..."

Must be mistaken, dear, this is the "Monday morning smile" thread, not the "Sunday evening smile" one :)

The world famous Tinkerbell was offloaded on Friday morning's Ryanair flight from Stansted to Krakow. Reason: apparently too much strong coffee:

"Smartphone Amnesty": London City Airport gives holidaymakers a break from digital distraction with a Light Phone

London City Airport (LCY) teams up with Brooklyn-based start-up Light Phone to offer passengers a free phone which only makes and receives phone calls. Passengers sign a Memorandum of Understanding which commits to switching off their smartphone and ditching the screen time for at least 48 hrs of their holiday. The ‘Smartphone Amnesty’ will help passengers avoid the digital grab for attention when on holiday – truly providing a break from work emails, apps, social media (and Brexit).

...

The Light Phone, created by the New York-based Light Company and launched in January 2017, has a simple interface with an intentional lack of features to help users regain their precious time and minimise digital distraction. The product only enables phone calls to be made and received, with the option to save just nine phone numbers on speed dial. Its manufacturers say the Light Phone is “designed to be used as little as possible” and the product has already proved extremely popular in USA, with limited stocks regularly selling out.

Liam McKay, Director of Corporate Affairs at London City Airport, said: “As the summer getaway continues, the Light Phone will help London City Airport’s ever-increasing leisure travellers reduce digital distraction and reclaim those quality moments with family and friends on holiday. After all, a summer break is about detaching from everyday life and work. I know from personal experience that it’s not always possible to avoid screen time when on downtime, as my wife will attest. This is an opportunity for some of our passengers, including those who typically use the airport for business travel, to try a digital detox.”

Kaiwei Tang, co-founder and CEO at Light Phone said: "The Light Phone gives back the most important things we have in our life but too easily take for granted, our time and attention. It is designed to be used as little as possible, and every design decision along the way reflects that philosophy. The Light Phone is actually an experience we call ‘going light’ in which the goal is not to use the Light Phone to place lots of phone calls, but to disconnect from the internet at large and maintain the peace of mind that you are still reachable by those you love the most. You know, if how we spend our days is always connected, always looking at our screens, that will be how we spend our lives.”

Dr David Greenfield, Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and founder of The Connecticut-based Centre for Internet and Technology Addiction, said: The Smartphone can addictively keep us in a highly distractible brain-state and may inhibit us from making healthy choices. A holiday is a time to be truly present for ourselves and those we love and this Light Phone can help us focus on what’s really important.”

As part of the arrangement, passengers will sign a Memorandum of Understanding which commits them to at least 48 hours of Light Phone use, while their smartphone remains switched off. Users can keep the same number if they have an existing smartphone with a call forwarding function, so urgent or emergency calls won’t be missed, and they can still dial friends and family should they need to. Passengers will get to keep their Light Phone at the end of their holiday.

London City Airport’s popular leisure destinations include Ibiza, Nice, Faro, Skiathos and Mykonos, all served by British Airways, and Lisbon and Porto, operated by TAP Air Portugal.

To be eligible to register for a Light Phone, you must be:

- A passenger booked to travel to one of London City Airport’s 44 destinations (comprising 43 in the EU, incl. 7 in the U.K., and 1 in the USA) with no onward travel outside the EU or USA.

- Booked to depart from London City Airport between Monday 13th August and Monday 27th August 2018.

- Able to arrive 2 hours before scheduled flight departure time to ensure the Light Phone can be provided and registered – or - provide a postal address at least 48 hours before departure for the phone to be sent by Royal Mail delivery.

Further information:

- The phones are limited and will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis. Registering interest does not guarantee a Light Phone

- Each Light Phone will be provided with an EE Pay As You Go SIM card which will be pre-paid by London City Airport and valid for 1 month, with unlimited minutes. Premium numbers will be blocked. Only standard rate calls within the EU are pre-paid.

- Passengers travelling to the United States on the New York JFK service will be provided with a US SIM card.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport had planned to charge 3 or 5 € for a visit to their Kiss & Ride zone. However, AMS had not realized that the parking area is actually on a public road, and the Haarlemmermeer Town Council now objects to the plans. Therefore, kissing goodbye remains free of charge at AMS.

...Jet Airways Flight 9W-955, Hyderabad to Indore of September 30, 2018, made an emergency landing at Indore. The Boeing 737 aircraft with 96 guests and 7 crew landed safely and all were successfully deplaned. According to flight monitoring sites tracking 9W-955, the B-737 was cruising at an altitude of almost 11 km at a speed of about 850 mph when the engine trouble happened...

Monday morning comes early, this Sunday evening :)
But yes, a bit funny. Looks like they confused mph and km/h.
And, sure enough, a smile is welcome at any time of any day!

Egyptair published an interview with Drew Barrymore in their in-flight magazine, the questions and answers in the interview are rather strange. Today Drew Barrymore's management confirmed that the interview never happened.
