According to this article in a Flemish newspaper (in dutch);
The runway of ANR should be moved 15 meters due to European safety regulations in accordance with safety strips around runways.
Summary:
On the Western side of the airport (“Deurne/Antwerp city side”) which borders a nearby street, possible traffic of vehicles larger than 1.80m could be considered as an obstacle to air traffic. The problem is solved by moving the runway up 15 meters over the roof of the tunnel under the Krijgsbaan-road in the municipality of Borsbeek.
Although not an lengthening of the runway, every meter is very 'sensitive' in the surrounding municipalities.
In theory, the airport has time until 2028 to perform one and another.
Let’s hope not, but expect a fierce “battle” over this in court probably…and appeals…and action committees.

I wouldn't be surprised if ANR gets an exemption due to:
1) a case study which proves the "moving obstacles" on the Vosstraat have never been a problem.
2) the rather complex lay of the land around the airport.

There is a simple solution: close that street to vehicles higher than 1.8m; there are enough street around it to arrange diversions.

VLM will serve the Manchester-Antwerp and Manchester-Ostend/Bruges routes from 1st October 2018. It is the first time that Manchester will have a direct flight to Ostend-Bruges, offering passengers easy access to the stunning, medieval city of Bruges. The airline will operate the Ostend-Bruges service once a day. Additionally, VLM will serve Antwerp twice daily Monday to Friday, with daily flights over the weekend.

According to a recent addition to en.wikipedia, FlyBe will be operating seasonal charter flights from Antwerp to the Channel Islands - both Jersey and Guernsey are mentioned. But no sources are given - could anyone confirm?
BTW this service has a long tradition, dating back at least to the days of Delta Air Transport.

The mention on wikipedia has been withdrawn. More's the pity: as I said, this service has a certain tradition, it would be nice to see it restored. And wouldn't it be an excellent commercial opportunity?

FlyBe is launching these special tariffs for ALL destinations to/from Southend: Caen, Budapest, Dublin, Manchester, Groningen, Prague, Lyon, Cologne, ...
So, they are not ‘desperate’ for Antwerp (I would hope that all on this forum would support all initiatives on regional airports).
As for the actual FlyBe load factor, I was told that it varies between 30 and full. Moreover, they opened up the winter timetable for booking, and ANR is still there, same frequency.

Many here on this disregard the Flemish regional airports.
I don't know why.

The departures/arrivals info on the ANR website, isn't excelling in clarity (and this is certainly not the first time).
Example of today:
* the BCN-ANR & back flights are gone, while the BCN-ANR is still in the air for about an hour (result of the problems earlier this day)
* a few remaining flights of today are shown mixed up with tomorrow's flights. Is it really that difficult to have today's flights first in the list, followed by tomorrow's

In case anyone asks, the ASL Group creating this new charter airline in Antwerp has nothing to do with ASL Airlines. As I was in doubt, I asked the question and here is the answer from ASL Group:Sai wrote: ↑08 May 2018, 16:58To give an idea of the fares of this 'new' 'Belgian' airline: around € 25 000 for a return ticket to BCN.sn26567 wrote: ↑06 May 2018, 00:19 ASL and JetNetherlands launch Air Charters Europe with an Embraer ERJ135 based at Antwerp

Q. Is there any relation between ASL Group and ASL Airlines? The similarity of names might be confusing.
A. No there isn't really, other than having a friendly relationship and mutual respect. These are two completely different entities with different ownership.
