Schedule of tomorrow's flight (and the return on the next day):

Code: Select all

BV1618 MXP-HAV 16:25 - 22:15 A343
BV1619 HAV-MXP 01:20 - 17:20 A343
This supposes that two crews are available to operate the flights, since there is no rest period in HAV.
Passengers who check their flight status on FR24 now, are in for a surprise: it's gonna be a 737-800...

Taking off right now!

But FR24 still mentions Cayo Largo del Sur (CYO) as the destination. Probably because the previous BVF1618 flights were triangular ones: MXP-CYO-HAV-MXP.

I wrote a letter to the CEO offering to make a film of their new service soon after the start as that would give them tremendous exposure on social media... millions of views/likes for $0, thats not a bad deal for an airline that very few people out there know...
So far no answer... we shall see...
To this date our record is pretty good in Belgium having filmed just about every airline that existed including the original Air Belgium 20 years ago :)

Yesterday afternoon OO-ABA was towed again to the north apron. An unforeseen opportunity for those who were spotting from P3:

Flanker3 wrote: 06 Apr 2018, 19:23 It never ceases to amaze me how "managers" hope to run yield management from day 1 on routes without feeding and with heavy competition, only to price themselves out of the market. So much for being a "disruptor".

Scarce return tickets at 450 EUR return, but mostly at over 500 EUR return
In the meanwhile CX is at 570 EUR return from BRU while BA is below 500 EUR via LHR. AB can't promote themselves like this.

A word of advice: start selling at max. 299 EUR return in Y, 999 EUR return in C.

If I were the CEO,

If they continue like this, they won't last. It looks like they don't know what they're doing.
I hoped for them to succeed but like this they don't stand a chance.
You should start an airline. You seems to know the job. "Air Flanker", and let's see which one between you and N.T knows better how to rule an airline ;) I know on which one i would bet...

Furthermore, the CX's prices are not around 570. The average price is higher. For BA, what a joke. Randomly, i got 885€ (Tue 10/07 - Sun 15/07). I request a screen for a price below 500...
I struck a very sensitive chord. Haven't I?

Let's look at my ttack record.

I talked about the DY issues long before MOL hit the press with it.

Re: Norwegian in 2016

I don't understand all the fuss about Norwegian and I don't understand why it is followed on aviation24.be.
On average since their creation, they have not been profitable with very poor ROI for investors. I really wonder who injected all the capital into them, but I think that there must be a lot of Norwegian State interests in there through constructions.

Sure, they have very ambitious growth plans, but I doubt that they will become more profitable.
There just ins't the focus that they need. They want to open a base in about every major city in Europe and operate mainline routes from there.

They have a lot of capital, so they can survive several years even with very ambitious growth plans and ensuing losses. Their business model is not sustainable, their load factors are too low and fares too high.
Their longhaul routes do not benefit from mass outside their Scandinavian bases. Also, the aircraft that they are using for longhaul don't have low enough unit cost for low cost operations and the C class is not good enough. Some Asian airlines have a Y+ hard product that is comparable.

It will be interesting to see whether they will survive the next financial crash and higher oil prices, if their unjustified big fleet expansion plans don't kill them first.
About EY's foolish strategy with AB and AZ I was also met with a lot of skepticism.

Post 28 Apr 2014, 23:26

I'm still wondering what EY's strategy is in all of this.
They are throwing with money here and there in Europe, they thought that they could come in and from one day to the other paint all their airplanes into EY hybrid liveries to build a "Etihad Group", Trojan horse style.

This is Europe after all, and unless you own all the key politicians, you can't do anything.

For me, EY don't have a plan. They are barely profitable and with their brother company hubbing 100km further, they are poised to fall on their faces together.
Even if they use this airline as a new way of marketing their oil more direcly to make more profits, the day that the oil well dries up, there won't be much left to continue on.

I think that long-term, ie 20-30 years or so, EK and EY will join the ranks of Pan Am and TWA, as glamorous airlines that once existed.

Dear Flanker2,

I am reading this forum every day and it makes me happy to have someone as you sharing your knowledge to the world. You seem to have figured out the whole airline industry and knowing what will happen in 20-30years from now. Maybe you should quit your job and apply immediately for CEO of a big airline?
I accurately predicted EK and NH's entry into BRU.

I was wrong about FR destroying SN in BRU but probably because I was counting on MOL to push through with it and not sissy out on me. He pushed out VY and then retreated.

So I think that when Flanker comments about an issue, you can stop dipping your head in the sand and look at the issue.

Right now the issue is that Airbelgium is pricing itself out of the market.
They dont have the marketing power and budget that other airlines have, they don't have a customer base, they don't operate out of BRU and yet they are running yield management like the big boys while calling themselves a market disruptor.

For the competing rates, have a look at
https://www.momondo.be/vluchten/search/ ... 6304848147

The reason why other airlines can take tour operator traffic and still make money is because of the other pax.

An A340 sector CRL-HKG is a 100.000+ EUR affair.
Return sets you back over 200.000 EUR.
It's a very delicate operation, there is no room to leave even one seat empty.

Yield management only makes sense once you can fill your airplanes reliably. Until then, any revenue is better than no revenue. There is no yield on an empty seat.

Air Belgium needs to promote itself. It needs to get people talking. They're not going to achieve that with their current fares.

Flanker, to "situate" your knowledge: you're very good identifying possible failures... unfortunately every entrepreneur knows how easy it is to fail, every entrepreneur failed multiple times before achieving a first success. That's not "head in the sand", that's reality. The messages you write down are the "easy predictions", never to be corrected if one of them would every end up wrong.

OO-ABB has just landed in BRU after completion of flight BV9619 from MXP.

The return flight from Havana BV1619 landed at MXP with a delay of two hours.

On-time performance of Air Belgium looks rather poor until now... Let's hope the teething problems will be over soon.

Both Air Belgium aircraft are again in EBBR in front of the old DHL.
They stand next to the 'new' TUI dreamliner OO-LOE.
